Hi everyone,
I've been busy all day so resisted temptation and decided to wait until tonight to catch up. I had a productive first day, got 6 appointments booked and will do some more calls etc tomorrow. I'm looking forward to getting out and about.
Guess what happened today though. Remeber the job I went to Leeds for and just missed? They called me back this morning and asked if I wanted the job, the other guy didn't work out.
I was going to go and meet them to chat on Wednesday, but I have thought about it and decided against it. The money is certainly better for now, in fact £200 a week better, but at what cost? The questions I asked myself were: Why did the guy last 3 months, did he tell them lies to begin with, or can he not work with these people? Are they looking for too much? Why didn't they pick me first?
I think it is a matter of integrity too. The company that have employed me had me down there for a week training, they housed me and fed me for a week and treated me really nicely, and the job will be easy to do and a pleasant on at that. I also think that at the end of the day, 2 or 3 years down the line, I will be making lots of money with this company or certainly another in the medical world. So that's what has made my mind up. The extra cash would be a godsend, but I just wonder how long I would have it for? Best stopping where I am for now I think, what do you all think?
Back on topic, I did not spend that much today, 3.96 on shopping and throat losengers.
Speak later. xx0 -
SL - I totally agree with your reasoning on the job front
My turn for the dog/chook house tonight !!! I caught a film on F/view a few days back, and was glued to it. I made a note of the title, with a view to maybe tracking down a copy at some point. Caught the tail end of it on F/view again today, and even though I knew exactly what was coming up I was still in tears -- and I love films that can do that to me.
So I went looking for it....... Not a widely available one as best I can see, but 'the river' had it for £3.37 + £1.43 postage. I cringed at what the postage would bump it up to, but the Super Saver level for free postage is currently only a fiver -- so I went to check the status of a series of books I've been buying over a number of years is. And the next that I've not yet read was released as a paperback at the end of last October. So by adding that (another £3.86) to the order I got free delivery !!!! (Which effectively means the book only cost me £2.43)
And yes, these were wants and not needsI could have waited and stuck them onto my Christmas list, but it's a looooong time until then (the biggest drawback to having a birthday within a month of Christmas is that I have 11 months to make a list to be hit twice in 4 weeks!)

Hello
Taka - Well done you!!! :j BIG congrats
Bails - Would you be able to PM me the name of that building society please?
I have updated my sig, and do not seem to be doing very well at all. I am sad about this as I have not done any stockpiling, or bought any pressies out of that money. However, it does include all my petrol, car insurance and electric so I suppose it is not *too* bad
I made the Lentil Dhal tonight and it was really nice. last time I made Dhal, I used the recipe out of 3 & 4 Ingredient recipes and it was rubbish!!! Side: The whole book is rubbish, do not buy it. Anyway, the Delia one was lovely and only took me about 40 mins from start to finish, pretty good for a first time.We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret and disappointment0 -
Skint Lynne-I think you should listen to your gut instinct as well as all the reasons you give. Things do happen for a reason.
Marru-Wow your thread looks great!!
Bails-Congrats on ME fund. Love photography.
Taka-Beautiful Photos and congrats on your health. What an achievement. x
Well we've visited 3 properties this afternoon/evening
1st property-The cheapest but bit run down. Garden of crazy paving so no veggie plot to start with. Trouble is we bought our present property at a good price but 3 years later there are still so many jobs to do and thats with OH being unemployed for 5 months. Now he is working again he will have no time. Shed at bottom of garden, had power but smelt damp so would have to be demolished.I was worried about the huge log pile inside.
2nd property-The most expensive and beautifully decorated. Central Heating made it lovely and warm. Larder was lovely. But is at least 40 minutes from school.
3rd property, next door to the first and in a very pretty country lane in a small hamlet-Middle priced -10k more than first-15 k less than second-but at least 15k less than our present house (even if we sold it at 20k less than its worth). It is beautifully decorated but the reason for the lower price is that its not in a city (15 minutes to school) and is just lounge and kitchen downstairs. Upstairs there is a landing which can fit a small double bed (futon style-so tucked away most of time), a small bathroom and then the main bedroom (from which are lovely countryside views). Small but nicely done decking outside. Garden small but OH could have all the grass and existing borders for veggie growing. Nice summer house/shed with power which we could put dinning table in and a desk. Another small shed and a wood shed.
I'm sure you will have guessed that we liked the last one the best and if we did buy it could be mortgage free in about 2 years.
Now comes the brave bit...................Putting in an offer. Getting our house on the market and getting people in to do it up. We have gone through the finances and have a bit set aside for moving/doing our house up.
Thanks for listening.

SFT,
My gut instinct re: the 2 jobs is to stop at the present one because I suspect that the lady who would be my boss at the Leeds one would be a hard taskmaster and always breathing down my neck. I also think that medical repping would be a more pleasant role, and you cannot cold call these appointments, due to clients being nurses, they might be at clinics etc, then there's the security aspect of roaming around hospitals, they might chuck you out.:D
My gut instinct re: your houses are defo the 3rd one, it sounds fantastic and even better if you could be rid of the mortgage in 2 years.:T0 -

SFT-how much bedroom space do you need? It only has one bedroom and a bed on the landing? But you mention the school? Def sounds the best tho-as long as one bedroom is ok.Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults0

SL, I think it sounds like you've made the right decision too.:T
