  • Just had my storecupboard raided by DS3 who has recently moved to a place with his mate - first time living independently at nearly 19. He has now decided that mums stockpile is a very good idea - especially now he has had a taste of doing his own shopping;) . Sent him and mate home with two carrier bags full of goodies to start them off,as well as some of xmas chocs to use up, and lots of tips on cheap meals.Had my car cleaned in exchange:D

He is quite able for a male though and can already cook, wash, iron etc. Had to laugh when he said mate had put some beans in a dish in fridge then next day was complaining they looked dried up.DS told him add a bit of water and stir them up and get them eaten:rotfl: he must be a chip off the old block:rolleyes:

I think I'm going to have to get a real-life version of that at our house ;) OH has no interest whatsoever and leaves it up to me, but still spends whatever whenever ...  This is why my start date keeps moving.

I've set May 1st as final "doghouse or else" date and we'll see how we go from there, but unless I can get control of this it'll wipe us out and I am just not prepared to tolerate that. I've worked many, many years for this house and I'm staying in it!

So, with that bad-tempered and utterly grumpy post, I shall paint a smile on my face and plunge back into the mess that our accounts passes for ................ and I'd got us out of debt once already ..... grrrrrrrrrr So, onwards and sideways, fellow Frugonians :rotfl: I can't be the only one in the world in this situation, so it'll work out - it always does [I'm bossy like that :rotfl::rotfl:]

hugs to them as needs 'em, congratulations too to those who have done something to celebrate, commiserations with those who are feeling glum and a good kick in the tush for me!

I'd like to say a great big
    THANK YOU!

to everyone who replied to my ranting post last week. Really it was me just letting off steam (giving the walls a break!!), but the way you replied, with support and ideas really made a difference - thanks.
Oh for Goodness' Sake!! Here we go again :(
Total debt £4,839.51 (Still adding it up though :( )
    Now : £4, 759.81
  • Oh dear!!
We went to look at some properties in country locations today. Now all those urges that I have kept surpressed have bubbled up.
I've just convinced OH that we should put our house up for 15k less than it is worth for a (quick) sale (in the present climate) so we can bag a pretty but much smaller place in the most beautiful country lane. Am I mad??? There are also 2 other rural locations under consideration. Is it wrong to start looking until we've sold this place or should we not do so until this place has gone.
    Help appreciated.
Hugs to all. Haven't caught up with todays posts yet.

  • I don't think you are wrong, SFT. It's how we get motivated, seeing what we want. If you're going to sacrifice £15K, then it's up to you to decide if it really IS a sacrifice, in which case only you can tell if it's worth it, OR if it's a sensible business decision to turn the corner quickly, thus enabling you both to get where you want to be and can possibly find yourselves a more relaxed and therefore possibly more frugal lifestyle.

Other things to consider - what about travelling? Will being more rural cost you moer? It often does. Are you BOTH interested in the rural life/gardening/not going out a great deal? If it's only you, it could cause problems ....

Hate to do this, but it's got to be thought about.

    hugs and hope

    Afternoon frugalmeisters :p

Not done much so far today but hoping to get motivated into action by this forum.

At lunchtime we went to the cinema to see 'he's not that into you' (or whatever it's called), it was good but ruined by a gang of kids talking constantly, running up and down the aisles, eating loudly, fiddling with mobile phones etc.... We told them to be quiet but they wouldn't. very annoying.

After that my sister was going to Aldi so I tagged along. Got a load of stuff for £15.25, should see me sorted for at least the next couple of weeks with what I have already in the freezer, only milk to buy. All lunches sorted too so will not be buying sandwiches at work, and will be bringing in my home made flapjacks which will stop me buying crisps and chocolate from the shop.

So I am hoping for a nice low spend week :D
  • Today has been a busy day - cooked a roast, sorted back of store cupboard and put 2 items on freecycle (one being collected soon) and made 24 fairy cakes for half term. Off to get work stuff ready for tomorrow and have a snack and then get lil man to bed! and DS1 from neighbours. Daughter asleep so is going to be up late :( - gotta be at work for 9.15am arghhh.
DFW since JAN 2009 - 2014 will be the year i finally clear debts :) Just to see which month :))))

Hello everyone, hope you've all had a lovely weekend and Valentine's Day! We're still in Brighton but will be heading home in a couple of hours, having a had a great time catching up with friends from overseas and closer to home.
Spent a lovely afternoon with BB admiring her new kitchen and walk-in pantry, which makes such a difference :T I particularly love the spotty doormat! BB's home always has such a wonderful feel to it, it's a pleasure to spend time there.

OH made my Valentine's very special with a totally unexpected surprise...

and put a reserve on the puppy!:j:smileyhea:kisses3:

:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.
