Hi everyone..
I just had to join in and also say to the Newbies.......things definitely get better. We all remember the panic, fear, terror.....just thinking about it now upsets me. We started off with £74k of debt. We have been on our DMP with Payplan for a year, and its the best thing we ever did.
We were floundering in a sea of debt, and didn't know which way to turn......but now, after a year, we are used to the budgeting for everything. Christmas came and went, and we managed to pay for everything....with CASH, so it made it even better, no worries in January.:j
Check out the Old style boards for help with the food side of things, good receipes, and they certainly make your money go further.
Don't worry too much about the phone calls which you more than likely will get. We just gave them our DMP company and reference number, and did not get into lengthy conversations with our creditors..At the end of the day, you can't pay them what you don't have.
Good luck all, and keep posting, the help and advice and the laughs which you get on this site and invaluable.:rotfl::rotfl:

p.s.
Not one person knows about our debt, so without this site to air my problems and let off steam, I would go barmy.

I'm a bit confused I have tried to get on a payment plan with citibank for a while now and they have not sent me any letters that either accept the plan or decline the plan. They have stopped the phone calls up to 5-6 times a day. My statement arrived this morning and they have stopped the interest on the account.
So I don't know what they are doing or even planning. Do anyone thing that I should write to them again and explain that I can only pay £xxx amount a month?

Hello, newbie here!
I've been given the link to this place many a time by people for various things but due to me spending a long time procrastinating and with my head firmly in the sand I have only just joined up!
I have finally taken my head OUT of the sand and signed up with PayPlan who seem very good and I'm pleased to see so many of you saying good things about them! My first payment went to them today and I can honestly say as soon as i sent the signed expenditure forms etc off I felt a weight lifted! It's such a relief to feel that altho i'm still on a very tight budget and will be for the foreseeable future (Hopefully debt free by the end of 2013 latest! woohoo!) I finally feel like I have some control back! I've been drowning in it all for too long and have shed far too many tears over it! Why didn't i do it sooner??
SO there you have it, I'm properly here to join you all!!
Oh and MBNA are SO annoying and keep on phoning (I know it's still early for me, I hope they stop soon). I keep telling them, I'm with payplan they will deal with you now, and they keep saying we have received nothing from them can we have a token payment? NO, NOW STOP CALLING ME!!
Also do these people get trained to wait a certain amount of time before saying anything when they phone! Like 2 'hello''s or at least the time it takes for you to say hello twice! it really winds me up! i might start saying nothing at all when i answser and see what they do then!
Anyway just wanted to say hello, and that ended up longer than i intended and more of rant! Honestly i do feel better, hehe!
Oh and I meant to add, only one person fully knows the extent of our debt (a friend who has helped me budget honestly, not the way i used to do it). My parents and close friends (and sil coz she's on one too) know we are now on a DMP but not the full extent of it! I'd prefer as few people as possible know this! And work didn't even ask why when i changed my account. I did worry what i'd tell them if they did but i think i'd have been honestish and just said i'm tying to sort out our finances!DMP Mutual Support Thread Member No 261Debt at start of DMP (Jan 2009) = 46,147.86 Now = 36,826.98DFD = [STRIKE]Jan 2014[/STRIKE] May 2013 ([strike]60[/strike] [STRIKE]52[/STRIKE] 41 payments to go)NSD:Nov 12/12:jDec 9/10 Jan 5/10Slowly but surely:coffee:0 -

Evening all.
Im back after an amazing night last night..thank you all who wished me a good night..it was fantstic!!
So im just trying to catch up with the thread, there have been lots of posts.
Hiya to all the new posters..brief history..been on dmp for 3 yrs with a fee paying company in process of swapping to payplan for the reat of the dmp or go it alone(havent decided yet)..i have claimed back bank charges sucsessfully from 1 bank and 2 credit/store cards and about to start new claim with last credit card. Have 4 kids and a hubby and whole lot of debt..well started with approx 24k now down to 12k ish. And life has been good since the day i went on dmp.
Here to help with anything i can.
I see from the last few posts that the question of who have you told has been brought up.
I have told almost everyone i know apart from my parents (as i dont talk to them anyway, thats a whole new thread on its own!!lol) and my in-laws who we are very close to, and would pay the debt off if we told them..and i dont want that. As they got us out of a mess about 7 yrs ago and i promised them i would never get in a mess again...and we did, i plan to tell them after we have cleared the debt ourself , as i couldnt lie to my mother in law forever but want to show i can do it myself.
As for everyone else friends ect..im proud that im clearing my debts so i dont hide it, and im was amazed to find out 2 of my friends were also on dmp or are on one now, and one friend iv help her set up a dmp with cccs.
Be back later

Hi,
I have a quick question. I have tried to fnd this on the threads but no joy so far. But I apologise for asking questions that may have been asked already.
I am on the verge of starting a DMP with the CCCS. Before I do I was wondering what effect this will have on my wifes credit file, and also who are the best bank to aproach to open an account with. Also can my creditors chase my wife for payment even though all the debts are mine and in my name only?
Thanks in advance.0 -

As far as I know they can't chase your wife for payment if the debts are i your name. Am as positive as can be but let others confirm that.
There is no real 'best' bank as far as I know. It a just needs to be one with no links at all to your debt- be careful now they are all merging! It also depends if you want a 'basic' bank account or not (and as CCCS require you not to take out anymore credit you can't have an overdraft facility). A number of banks offer them. Let me find the links for you to look up which banks are linked and which banks do basic bank accounts....0 -
Basic bank accounts link (from the main site here. Martin recommends Barclays and Co-op as being simpler to get- I think because they also give accounts if you're bankrupt...?) http://www.moneymadeclear.fsa.gov.uk/pdfs/bank_accounts.pdf0

Linked banks etc... (be sure it's up to date...)
Hope that helps a bit0
