I felt guilty until the month before starting the DMP, when I was at my limit on my cards, they hiked up the interest rate. At that point I said, cheers thanks for the help  and sent off the CCCS lettersworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0

Hi to all the new people... and as newlywed and the others say, at the beginning and before everything gets set up and running it's awful... but honestly the DMP is the best thing I ever did. I decided not to go with CCCS or Payplan in the end but after a lot of support from this board I decided to go it alone.
I did get a lot of phone calls and letters from creditors at first (and felt sick for about 2 months after my lightbulb moment) but have felt a lot happier since. I lost my job in the autumn and had to adjust to make token payments to everyone (wrote recorded delivery first to them all)- which has started up the nasty letters etc again. Had a big loan with Co-op who defaulted me without telling me or ever contacting me AT ALL! and am now with a DCA. A couple of the others are about to do the same but at least they have told me so first!
I suppose what I am saying is that you get hardened to it all after a while. They can't have what you don't have and the worry and stress of all that debt I had before my DMP is a thing of the past.
We are ALL doing something positive to deal with our debts so stick around and you will get plenty of support here!0 -
I still can't find where I saved that letter I promised to send you- will look again today, BUT basically it's the template letter about telephone harrassment, send it to MBNA and include RMA in it.
I will find the stroppy response I got (which worked!) and you can send it direct to her....!
(And I had the same threats earlier in the year from RMA about my student loans... they lied and told me student loans would only accept a minimum of £100 a month from me (which was a mix up anyway as I don't earn enough to pay them back so they are deferred). He demanded my debit card number over the phone then took payments I hadn't authorised. I got it refunded in the end and obviously I know far, far better now! I hate them! There is still an ongoing complaint about that to the FSA).0 -
Morning all!
I have to say, it's nice to come on here and talk to people that know what we're going through. I have one friend that is on a DMP and another that knows our plans to start one but that's all. Have other people told friends and family or kept it to themselves?
I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion for me - we are opening our new accounts and currently my parents pay a small amount into our account to help me stay at home with the children (it's not mega bucks but does help). Thing is, I don't want them to know we are doing the DMP - how do I explain that I will need them to change the account they pay the money into?!
Help!Proud to be dealing with our debts!:jDMP Mutual Support member 269LBM Jan 2009DMP with CCCS 1st May 2009DFD - who knows, but one day! :beer:0 -

They have verbally threatened me many times too, with spurious amounts to pay, and are currently ringing up to 3 times a day:mad:   For all I care they can take it to court, as I've no money to pay them;)"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

Help!
I just told work I was changing my bank account to make it easier to transfer money to OH's account (with same bank) and that it was easier to pay/withdraw as I could go to the post office instead of having to go all the way to a cash point (post office near work)
Or you could just say you've opened an account with another bank as the account suits you better/as there's no overdraft and you want to stop using your overdraft?working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -

Just been chatting to hubby and he said on the radio today the government said they are now in talks with debt collecting agencies about these harassing phone calls and they want it stopped. Let's hope so. I think you should complain about the Co-op not telling you about the default. It's terrible that these companies do this despite ever effort to keep them informed on your part. Hopefully someone can give you more advice on who to complain to. But I'm sure that you have rights to complain.
I'm having my first appointment with CCCS tomorrow and yes very scared too. Starting to get my head around it now though.0 -

Just wanted to say that I think this is a personal choice. I haven't told my parents and don't intend to. We have told my sis in-law who sat down and helped me and hubby sort out our differences. But we needed that because we are both stubborn and had to both change our attitude to money. She was a great help and personally we needed that. Now we can move forward and start budgeting together for the first time.0 -
