    Hi gaztop26
As Leese says in her reply #4466 (above), creditors will accept some DMP offers and not others - there seems to be no rhyme or reason to it. Just put your best foot forward and breeeeaaathe! ;)

I've seen the letter you refer to about token payments ahead of the first payment, but can't find it just yet - might be on the 'Ask a CCCS counsellor a question' thread...

Ianmak is the one who gives out DMP support numbers - he visits from time to time or you can PM him...

Seeing as you're going to be here for a while, pull up a chair and welcome to the gang!
    DG :D

    p.s. Welcome Barney too!

Did u have to cancel your Barclays bank accounts, ive got a note in my pack from CCCS saying that i can still keep my account with them but would have to be an Electron card which cant be used as a debit card.

I got the same info from CCCS about downgrading the account but decided to swap just in case. I had a nationwide account open but unused from when we arranged our mortgage. I phoned them up and they said the account was still active and would send me a cash card out. Good luck with yours.
It feels like the cloud is lifting and there is a bit of sunshine coming through now! Can't wait to get a couple more months down the road.

    gaz

Am gonna phone them and see what the score is with this since the account i use only has an overdraft of £100 but my other account is alot more since it was part of an openplan mortgage with the woolwich before Barclays taken them over. Cant see why i couldnt still use my normal account if i got rid of the overdraft. Does your other account have a direct debit facility or is this a no no as far as DMPs go, or is this just a Barclays thing? Any idea?

Know what u mean about the cloud lifting, ive had my head buried in the sand for way too long, just want it up and running now.

Just some info for those taking on new bank accounts. I have had a switch maestro for past 10 years and never thought I could like without it. Since starting my DMP I now have an electron card with another bank and I have been able to use it as a debit card on all the occasions I have needed it, including online purchases also. As yet it hasnt felt like I have a new card, albeit I know some places dont accept them, but this is few and far between now a days. hope this helps

Thanks Devongirl, knew she would be about somewhere - bless

I don't know whether you are allowed an overdraft while on a DMP, but it does seem to defeat the object a little bit.

My new (old) nationwide account doesn't have one as far as I am aware.

    Hi Barney

You might be interested to follow this link about basic bank accounts (including Barclays)...

    http://www.moneymadeclear.fsa.gov.uk/pdfs/bank_accounts.pdf

Most, but not all, basic accounts allow d/ds and s/os in and out of your account so you can do all your day to day banking as normal. Some offer a £10 overdraft, some don't - this is more of a 'safety net' than proper access to credit.

I've got an Electron card now and have only found one place that it isn't accepted, and that's my local rail station (although the self service ticket machine accepts it) i've used it various places - supermarkets, petrol stations, shops and no probs whatsover!

Overdrafts have to be included in your DMP as they are a debt.

I orginally banked with Barclays and I phoned them regarding a basic account and she said each case is reviewed individually and I didn't want to chance it and opened an account with the co-op (who have been brilliant) bit of a pain changing over DD's but I just went for it one day and changed them all over.
