My target is to claw back any money that has been 'stolen' from us over the years in late payments fees, missed payment fees, admin charges, overlimit fees and the dreaded ppi!
So ding ding round 2! :rotfl:
I'm using the template letters on this site to send and for the price of recorded delivery at £1.08 compared to what we could get back if successful is well worth the hassle. I think when you start up your DMP you get bogged down by all the jargon and your emotions but no more waiting around for us; It's time to fight back
Please wishme luck, I'm sooooo going to need it!
GOOD LUCK TOFFEE PENNY
Yep, I hear the bell too and you will not be the only one getting ready to FIGHT BACK!
Seasons Greetings to one and all, hope you are all looking forward to the start of 2009 - I know I am :j . We have "survived" Christmas without incurring any additional debt :T so I know where we stand going into the New Year which, I have to say, is definitely a first for us.
I'm pleased to report that the kids were happy with everything they got, we had food to eat and the house was warm ... yay!
I've booked an extra day off work and I'm going to spend the day going over all our figures and sorting out the letters to start reclaiming bank charges (x2 banks, mine and OH) and then I'm going to find the letters for reclaiming excessive charges on any of the other creditor accounts that we have. We currently stand at seven and a half years to repay our debts in full so anything that we can claw back to pay off the debt and reduce that time will be a bonus.

Hi everyone - hope everyone survived their credit free Christmas's - didn't we do well??!!! :T I haven't been around for a while and needed to get back on here for a reality check
Just got back from a wander round the sales (just to get out of the house and away from the awful TV programmes) and found it quite depressing that I couldn't do my usual snapping up the bargains. However, it's only a bargain if you need it and I don't!!
Our DMP starts officially on 1 January and most creditors seem to have accepted with the exception of NR - our largest creditor. They said they would not be helping us accepting the payment as it barely covered the interest. The interest can only be frozen if they commence legal proceedings - worried about this but will cross each challenge as it arises.
We stupidly booked a holiday for next summer last August (when we still had our heads firmly in the sand), friends of ours also booked the same holiday - and it is very awkward and embarrassing when we have had to say we are not now going - they know we are having money problems but not the full extent. It's going to be really hard when they actually go and we stay at homebut I'm sure we'll get over it.
Good luck with the reclaims Toffee Penny. I have just completed my first letter so fingers crossed.
DebtDaisy - I think once things settle down and the late charges etc. seem to stop would be the time to reclaim. It is quite annoying at the moment as debts increase rather than go down but I'm sure that'll change.
Onwards and upwards for 2009 :beer:No more credit for me - I will no longer live beyond my means :A

Hi all, hope everyone is doing well! It's been a bit quiet on here recently, so I presume people are...
Could I just check, are defaults sort of a good thing?DMP mutual support thread No: 2430 -
hello again all.
How long should a dmp take to start up?
Im soo stressed with all the phonecalls i just want it up and running asap.0 -
Hi Ian, hope you are well
It is standard practice to receive default notices from creditors when you start to miss the usual monthly payments. It just means you have defaulted on your original agreement with them that's all ie when you signed up for the card/loan you agreed to pay xxx amounts of pounds every month.
I use to think it meant going to court!I'm sort of collecting them now
I think creditors have to issue you with a default notice too to pass your account on to a DCAbut it just means you haven't kept to what you agreed.

Ruthie are you my twin? :rotfl:
I did exactly the same, as soon as the books came out for holidays 2009 I booked a two week all inclusive hol with Thomas CookSeveral months later I was in the shop asking for my desposit back
I didn't want to say on here in case someone thought 'what a div booking a holiday when you are in the sh....'
I too had my head in the sand, I even wrote down all the monthly payments we needed to make so we could afford it.
When it hit the fan (DMP) I even was tempted to ask my uncle to lend us the 2 grand so we could still go but being boring and sensible we decided to cancel, it just wasn't worth it. Yes having the sun on your face and sitting on that sand pretending you haven't a care in the world sounded great and just what we needed but honestly I'd have thought of nothing else but debt until we came home.
It's depressing as hell Ruthie especially when you work all year and look forward to a holiday treat but just wanted to say you're not the only one that's done this!Anyway I'm sure somewhere like Great Yarmouth or Skegness will be just as nice as Spain in 2009! ....ahem
You mentioned the sales too Ruthie, did you see the news the other night? all those idiots screaming and running up the escalators in Selfridges London when the sales started. MY GOD!! I'd have got the hoses out to them what prats!! I just wonder how much they all put on their credit cards?
Good luck with your reclaim and to Sunshine too xxx check out the loan section and credit card section on this forum, there are two great people Marshallka and Di who are on there. They are great for advise about reclaiming ppi and it has a section on success and failures which gives tips and advice on what to expect with creditor replies etc.DMP support thread member 211 :cool:I'm only here to get some medals......honest!0 -

Hi and welcome
A DMP usually takes no less than 2-3 weeks to set up from start to finish but it is Christmas and New Year which messes up the post a bit.
Any chance of changing the number? It might help as I have heard some creditors phone non stop throughout the day from 8 in the morning til whatever time the call centre closes!
Sit tight and don't let them get you down xxDMP support thread member 211 :cool:I'm only here to get some medals......honest!0 -
