tink - I reduced my DMP payments after 18 months on the DMP (increases in rent, petrol, food with reduction in non-essential expenditure like hobbies etc) - the creditors reacted like this:

Mint loan - nothing, not a word
Mint credit card - nothing, not a word
CL Finance (GE) - nothing, not a word
First Direct - sent me a loan agreement for one year at the new DMP payment but with the final payment for the remainder of the loan - as if  Didn't sign it. And so far, nothing else has happened, no charges, no increase in interest - just nothing ;)

I think CCCS said they have to recognise that the essential bills are increasing and that as long as I'm not adding sky or gym membership that they will have to accept it ;)

  • Oh pants - so my £60 p/m Virgin Gym Membership and my £50 p/m Sky HD with movies and sports won't go down well then ;)

    I wish....

I still have sky, but this comes from my shopping money as the way i see it is...we dont go out (very often maybe once a yr if that), my kids dont get spendo, dont play the lottery ect and this is our entertainment money.
I upgraded to sky+ by refering a friend and got it for free.

You still have to have a `life` when on a dmp, and as sad at it seems Sky is our little treat to ourselfs as a well done for dealing with the debts.
Also i regualy phone and threaten to cancel and have always been ofered a deal..currently on half price for full package for next 5 months!

  • I completely agree with you - we have Sky too and upgraded free through a friend to Sky+. We were on a Virgin Media deal before DMP which we were locked into and hated, so when it ended we did loads of reasearch and came up with a phone/broadband/tv combo which means it is only £5 more per month than we were paying before. In our eyes it is worth it for the amount of time we spend at home now !!

Might try to haggle half price for 5 months ;)

dlb- we still have sky too - OH pays for it though ;)

I think CCCS' point was that my reducing my DMP payments weren't simply due to wanting to ADD these things into my life some 18 months into the DMP ;)

Yeah we bend them a bit too - OH pays all the rent, council tax, tv, water, etc. I pay all the food - yet my SOA shows all these figures as being shared 50-50 - but works out more or less about even in any case :) And I pay a dentist that I haven't even seen in 5 years ;)

    Hi
One concern I have is that people have talked about recent activity on a credit card as being a problem - can anyone tell me more about that please? The thing is, we are in the classic "make min repayment with our wages but then have nothing left to buy food so stick it on the credit card" loop. I can't see how I can stop using the card until we are on the DMP and making smaller payments.

Rcp, as soon as you have contacted PP or CCCS and decided to setup a DMP you need to stop min payments to your creditors, and pay £1 token payments to each of them. Also cancel any DDs to them, until the DMP is up and running. This way you're still paying something, however little, and they can see you're still willing to pay. The money left over goes towards your emergency fund/food. Pay any more than the £1 and when the DMP is setup and the creditors are getting less, then they'll want to know why. If that makes sense.

    Did I miss anything folks?
