Hmm wonde rif its worth contacting A & L and offerign them 75% of the debt if I settle immediatly ?

It's def worth it 2spicy, I tried with a smaller debt of mine, they said no and the arrangement continued as normal through cccs. Think I'm going to carry on selling stuff through ebay till I've got enough money to offer a F&F to someone once I've paid A&L off.

    Hi everyone.

Please can I join..:D..... We have been on a DMP for eleven months, and its the best thing we did. I have just read this thread from start to finish and I recognise all the feelings that other people have had.

It takes a little while to settle down when you first start and then there are still some scary moments when you need extra cash for something and there isn't any money squirreled away, but eventually you get into the swing of it. Xmas came and went and we are pleased that everything was paid for with cash that we managed to save out of the housekeeping etc, and that is the first time in many years that nothing came off a credit card.!! and what a great feeling that is.:T

I am interested in the F & F........I didn't realise that creditors may offer these.....Does it happen after a certain time, or when you have paid off a certain %??

What a great thread......the support and advice is brill.

Halifax's DCA offered us 80% as soon as the debt got handed off. They can shove off at that though - nearly half the amount is charges!

    The phone calls do stop.
Just hang up or dont answer, or as i did talk over the top of them then hang up.

    Went alone these lines.

`My account is being delt with by my dmp company there number...... is my ref number is....., thank you goodbye`

It works they soon got fed up of me talking over the top of them, even when they shouted at me to please listen!!!

Thanks hun, these are automated robots on the end of the phone usually asking me to ring back, but if a real person rings i'll do that:D

A quick question, us it classed as preferential treatment if you offer a creditor an F&F? Say for example as mentioned before that you come into some money, wouldn't you need to spread that cash to all creditors, or can you pick one and say "how about an F&F then?"

Been on DMP for around 4 months now, the phone calls stopped after a month, though some occasionally phone for an update. I've tried to be as reasonable as I can to them, they're only doing their job after all (though they don't need to be so rude!), except for one creditor with a very small debt who said that my £1 payment to them was next to useless and when I suggest they give it back to me he really was going to give me a refund. Grr!

Again, hardest problem I've had is with budgeting, and not buying those unnecessary extras. I've also learnt how to cook, woohoo!
Hoping to nearly double my payment shortly, hopefully shouldn't struggle too much with that!

    Happy DMPing to you all!

  • OH had a letter from MBNA today offering to wipe off arrears if he can pay £3000 odd for £10k debt, someone on the forum had the same too. Makes you wonder if the banks are in trouble that they are trying to get as much back as quickly as they can, get rid of us lot on DMP's.

But I do wish I had that £3k though, just to get rid of one creditor to me right now would be a much needed boost. Highest debt is 18k lowest is less than £300 and this is the one I want to target first, might try saving loose change up as someone suggested in another thread, you just don't know how quickly you can save little bits of money to go towards debts.

I don't want to count chickens just yet just because OH has work, started on a new site today with new plots! Fingers crossed it lasts! ;)

  • Got all my paperwork done today ready to send to CCCS - have enclosed a covering letter asking them about increasing the shopping budget as previously mentioned so hopefully that will be ok I think I might phone them in the morning just to put my mind at ease. Why did I not think of that earlier doh!!!

Feel much better now that its all in hand and finally going to get on the road to being debt free.

Anyway off to relax with a glass of wine - just wanted to say thanks to everyone for all your support and advice it is very much appreciated.

DMP starting 1/3/09 - thanks to CCCS & MSE

personally I wouldn't bother offering extra money to DMP as it gets spread between them all and if one or two are still charging interest it just gets swallowed up.

I would see it as getting rid of one creditor means you are closer to becoming debt free surely CCCS or Payplan would see this as a good idea too even though they like to be seen to be fair to all of the creditors.

Check out the National Debtline website Ian, they have template letters to offer full and final offers. The creditors can only say 'no' can't they?
