    Hi

I am a new member, but been lurking a while. I have looked at a DMP via the cccs website and am thinking of going down this route.

Please can you offer any advice on anything I would need to do before I enter into a DMP? I know I need to open a basic bank account somewhere as I have an overdraft I would like to be included in the DMP.

    Thanks for any help.

    Hi there

I've just signed up and its honestly the best thing I could have done, recognised otherwise I'd be in debt for rest of my life unless I won the lottery!!

I opened an account with Abbey on Monday, and although its a basic account I've got an Electron card for debit payments, and they said I could have a cheque book too if I wanted it (I declined) - the good thing is this account won't let me go overdrawn so I can keep further track on my finances! :o)

I found information on Basic Accounts on FSA website - remember to get an account with a bank that is not linked to any of your creditors ie. if you owe HSBC don't go First Direct etc.

Good luck, hopefully we can all get thing back in order with this step :o) x

    Hello,

My main account is the Coop, however, I have an account with CIS who are I believe are part of the Coop group. If I use the latter account, could they "raid" or "off set" funds to service the debt in my current account?

    Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone, just thought I'd pop in and say hello, and also to let you know that this week I've reached the significant milestone (to me at least) of having my remaining debts less than 5 figures if that makes sense?! I'm down to £9,500 from nearly £40,000 so I'm feeling quite pleased. I'm also getting impatient for it to be zero. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and I want to run towards it (ooh I'm feeling very poetic today!). So anyway, that's me - I hope everyone is OK and is hanging in there. :)

  • Thanks for the advice so far. I will look into new bank accounts.

We are privately renting out house and the lease will expire Oct 2010. I know our credit rating will be affected by this, but I am worried that we will not be able to rent another property at that time if we have this on our file. We have been here for almost two years and have never been late or missed a payment and (hopefully) shouldn't in the future.

Good luck to you too MRSG2B.

    Thanks

  • I have not been on this thread before. I have just changed from a fee charging DMP with GP to CCCS (why I didnt start with them 3 years ago, I dont know!). I am due to make my first payment on the 1st April as far as I know. I have sent all my info in along with the signed agreement (posted Monday 1st class) and today have posted off loads of budget sheets and letters to all the creditors.

My question is, what will happen now from here? Will they be in touch to set up DD and arrange the first payment? Will it be a phone call or letter? Also will they send me a password for use of the online statement member log in thing, lol?

    Hi VanillaDelia & welcome aboard.

I signed up with CCCS over 18 months ago now so they may have changed the way they work, but at that time I had to go through everything on the phone with them, then they sent me the paperwork to sign & template letter to send off to my creditors. Once I got confirmation the plan was set up I had to make the first payment at the post office & from direct debit there after. They may go straight to direct debit now because there was a charge by paying at the post office.

With regards the online service I hope they are better prepared for that now. It took me 7 months of pestering them to get my password so I could use the online service, I may just have been unlucky though.

Yes you should certainly get confirmation by post that the DMP is set up & when your first payment needs to be made etc.
