What keeps me going even more, is the knowledge we will have a holiday where we don't have to worry about how to pay the credit card bills when we get back or whether we will have enough left after the holiday to pay the rent!!!working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0

one thing we have started doing is when eithe of us do odd jobs, be it sorting a minor service for a friends / neighbours car, doing a favour like ... the odd babysitting job for what was a bottle of wine, now we say, "call it £5 or whatever" the cash is being banked in a pot in our bedroom add to this any overtime we do,. We hope to beable to have enough for a family holiday for 2 weeks in the sun in the middle of the year. Well also be watchng for the free tokens in "The SUN" or MIRROR for a week in spain.LBM - Oct - 08 DMP Started - Feb -09

My hubby does the same, he is a driver/valeter by trade but i advertise the fact at school that he does private valets at home at the weekends, many of out friends come and have their car done and with the kids help he makes a few extra quid which we treat the kids with a dvd, popcorm ect with.
Every little helps and all that.Proud to be DEBT FREE AT LAST0 -
This is all great stuff guys! I'm going to start thinking about my goal when it's over! And a holiday sounds like a great one! I haven't been on holiday since my honeymoon nearly 3 years ago and won't be able to go on another one for a few years yet! But it's something to aim for!
Also like the way of counting down number of payments rather than time(seen it on some of your signatures!) I'm going to work mine out too! (Which reminds me I must do my signature!)
Just worked it out as 60 payments!! Not sure if that makes me feel better or worse! That's a maximum i guess tho so not too bad really!

I find numer of payments works better for me as it doesnt sound as long, and crossing each one off is very theoputic!! LOL
Daffykjs a goal is just one on many ways to keep you going and stay possitive.
I have my screensaver as a pic of the hotel i want to go to, so everytime i swich on the pc..i have a visual reminder of my goal!Proud to be DEBT FREE AT LAST0 -
60 payments sounds better than 5 years to me!! I think just having the word year in there makes it sounds longer.
I also used to write down how may payments i had made..that gives you a buzz too!!Proud to be DEBT FREE AT LAST0 -
ooh yeah crossing them off! I bet it is!!
I'm really looking forward to my next payment! Never thought I'd say that!! now i've changed all my bill payments to close to payday rather than spread out through the month (i used to get paid 2weekly, very unhelpful) it all happens in the first week then nothing! hehe! I've just changed everything this month and desperately want to see how it'll all work next month!DMP Mutual Support Thread Member No 261Debt at start of DMP (Jan 2009) = 46,147.86 Now = 36,826.98DFD = [STRIKE]Jan 2014[/STRIKE] May 2013 ([strike]60[/strike] [STRIKE]52[/STRIKE] 41 payments to go)NSD:Nov 12/12:jDec 9/10 Jan 5/10Slowly but surely:coffee:0 -
WOW!!! Its been a busy old day on here today. I'm still trying to catch up but welcome to the newbies...you are in the right place and i've said welcome so many times now i'm starting to feel like i've been here a while already and reality it isnt that long....but it has made such a more positive impact on my life.
One of the earlier posts said not to worry too much about DFD and although mine is in the back of my mind i certainly arent worrying about it - i just know that one day we will be DF! I also posted a few days agao saying i would rather enjoy the next 6/8/10 years or however many it is with a bad credit rating than spend the next 6/8/10 years worrying, rowings and generally miserable and still end up with the same bad credit rating.
I think i tempted fate with the phone calls we've had 3 automated calls from Halifax today...i just hang up on them, if they cant be bothered to get a real person to speak to me i'm not responding to their machine!!
I've also had my emergency cc decision made for me - the limit has been reduced by £400 conveniently on the very next statement after i paid £500 off it so with hindsight i should have just included it in my DMP! I am now wondering though if i should delay my DMP from 1st April to 1st May to increase our emergency fund - does anyone have any opinions on this?
I'm loving the support and positivity on this thread right now and it really is helping me move forward and stay in control. dlb, MD, Newlywed and MFN have all been amazing to me as have many others. I'm really sorry i dont have the time to respond to each poster (new and old) individually but please remember to keep asking questions as i did and still do, there will always be someone who can help or point you in the right direction.DMP Support Member 254.
