We stayed in a campsite just outside Beddgelert (migh have been Cae DU, but can't remember). It's a really nice location for camping. Nestled in the hills, stream snaking around. The location for the Khyber Pass apparently! We also stayed in a basic site on a hillside just northwest of Tremadog, overlooking the mountains. It was basic, but pretty gorgeous. I think that might have been called Eisteddfa, but not sure.

Porthmeirion is a great place to visit. Location for the Prisoner series. Very strange. Good walk.

Get the steam train from Porthmadog to Blaenau Ffestiniog for the slate quarries and mines. Amazing landscape. Make sure you go down the mine-fantastic!

Of course, you should climb Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) if you can (The drive from Beddgelert to Snowdonia is beautiful). I think it takes about three hours on the long, easy tourist trail to walk from Llanberis to the peak. You could return on the mountain train back down to Llanberis for a change of perspective. It's expensive though!

North Wales is absolutely gorgeous, and best of all is full of Welsh speaking Welsh people! You really feel that you're somewhere different.

Also, we didn't travel to Ynys Mon (Anglesey), but next time we go, that will be a destination for us. I've always wanted to see the Britannia and Menai bridges, but somehow, I couldn't find it and ended up at the pier in Bangor instead! :o

Now I am armed with satellite navigation, which is a marked improvement on my girlfriend's navigation skills :D I reckon I could find it!

Yup, north west Wales is a beautiful part of the world - particularly if you can avoid the rain!!! I haven't been for a few years now, but have done the Snowdon climb (under duress!) on a gorgeous sunny day, also stayed in Beddgelert, done the slate mines, the chuff chuff to Porthmadog, etc...... Haven't been to Portmeirion - wanted to go but we were with the in-laws and they had a dog at the time and we couldn't go in there with the dog. Similar thing with the jailhouse at Beaumaris on Anglesey , but I'm sure we'll be back when there kids are older.

The only problem with North Wales is that it's easier to get just about anywhere than it is to get from South to North Wales.:D

    Jxx
And it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end

Too true, i often used to travel to Holyhead A470 nearly all the way but what a winding road through the mountains with only one straight stretch that i can remember that lasts for about a mile but had a speed camera slap bang in the middle of it, what a money spinner that must be with people suddenly thinking they can put their foot down at last.
    WHOOOOSHHHHHHHHH……..
    Blimey what was that ?
    That was your life mate
Oh I wasn’t quite ready can I have another go ?
Sorry mate only one per person.

I know it's wrong to say it, but those roads are just BEGGING to be driven at light speed! Trouble is, you are concentrating so hard on avoiding the fatal drop down the hill that you miss the scenery
