    God knows.
18 May 2007 (start of Mortgage):
    Coventry Offset Mortgage £220800
    Offset Savings: £0
    Mortgage Balance: £220,800

    14 Jan 08

If you are renting you can get housing benefit immediately!! You reckon... I'm not so optimistic.. when they don't even rehouse women who are pregnant and nearly on the street..

thats a lot more than homeowners get even with this all new "package"
Sorry Lynz, sick of hearing about homeowners and the governments plans to bail out the reckless... absolutely sick to death of it

Izzy you really are very nasty it comes across in a lot of your posts. I suggest you speak to your MP if you dont like the situation, venting at others is not in the spirit of moneysaving expert.
You may think I am very nasty (sorry, I really don't believe in sugar coating things, its not the way I was bought up), but I am not intentionally nasty, just fed up with people coming on this board calling us vultures and then not liking it when we retaliate.... you may be more tolerant.. not me, as I am sick of having to feel sympathy towards people who got into a mess of their own accord .... and people coming onto this board calling us 'vultures' are also not in the spirit of moneysaving... there are two sides to the coin here you know.. please remember that.

"be nice to all moneysavers- even if you disagree courtesy helps - shouldn't that also apply to the OP then..
Fair enough, I didn't read the whole thread TBH, but the OP's first couple of threads grated on my nerves enough to retaliate, which is what I did.. on an open public forum

izzy, I usually agree with you, but in this case, as I doubt very much you've read the whole thread due to its length, actually the OP has apologized for offending anyone in her OP (see post 180) and also specifically said she does have sympathy for priced-out FTB's.

Don't use her as a target for all those !!!!!! who come on here raving about their own superiority; she's not like that, and is just an ordinary woman suffering from the downturn and her own decisions as many are; at least brave enough to admit it publicly.

Fair enough Carolt, I didn't read the whole post so apologies to the OP for that.. I've kept off these boards for some time because I am sick of hearing about home owner woes, the interest rates being cut and them whooping with delight and then the government plans to help the reckless and TBH the OP's post was a red rag to a bull... nobody is safe from the downturn or redundancies... renters / home owners etc, just fed up with hearing about home owners plights 24/7.

indeed.... id be more sympathetic with someone who works as a cleaner... as i said before.

someone who works hard, gets paid little and then gets screwed... i'd have lots of sympathy as there simply not alot thet could do... and had been let down.

Well neas... I worked as a office cleaner.. supervisor in a huge bank. I had a workforce who were all nationalities and all colours, who all laughed a lot and did their best most of the time. The bank staff either looked right through us or complained about us, we got no rise is 5 years & they kept cutting the numbers but adding to the work.
Please all of you, be nice to your cleaners !! It's a very thankless job!

so true mardatha... i talk to the cleaners at our site.. this year because they were contacted out as a different company they 'forgot' to invite them to the xmas party (3 course black tie event).

Of course I and a few others cried out about it.. and they were invited but in general they are low paid and most people ignore them, i talk to them though as they do work hard for minimal pay.

I'm starting a cleaning business in the new year

About to go live at the end of January.

As for low paid cleaners, I think some of them need to remember they are getting paid to do a job and not just chat and dissapear for hours on end.

Is there much work for cleaners in the present climate? I would have thought not but maybe I am wrong.
  • Hello,

I havent read through this whole post, but i would like to just say i am what you consider a 'vulture' and i am proud TBH

I am 22, engaged with my OH being 23. We earn jointly 40k between us, and have 30k saved up for a deposit on a house. Yet we could only get a mortgage of 130k. Living in london, that narrowed us down to a shoebox or a pit.

I think prices are ridiculously high and while i do feel for those losing their houses, some of us were already in a terrible situation. What about those that couldnt afford to buy in the first place? It had to come down eventually!

With respect MrsPitcher2b, you are still very young and very few people can expect to start on the housing ladder in anything but a small property. This has always been the case and is nothing new today. Your mortgage plus your deposit of £160k should buy you a reasonable property on the outskirts of London, what exactly are you expecting as a First Time Buyer?

Has it always been the case that 160K would only buy you what you get today? Has it f**k. Don't patronise people.
