    IF someone buys a repossession it doesn't make them greedy and they haven't taken someone's home, they have bought it from the mortgage lender who repossessed it. In some cases (I'm not saying all cases) the previous 'owner' would be relieved to be rid of the burden of the mortgage and it might not necessarily be sold with a shortfall so could actually get them out of financial difficulty.

    I think tesuhoha's got a point in the OP. There are some people taking far too much glee in the misery of others, and it's not pleasant.

    You see, life's complicated. It's perfectly okay to think:
    1) lower house prices will benefit the country;
    2) the correction was long overdue;
    3) it's a shame that some people will be hurt by the correction.

    Some posters seem to make the mistake of simplifying the issue, and in their little heads it probably goes something like this: "I want a cheap house" => "A crash will hurt some people" => "I want a crash to hurt some people".

    Either that or their logic is impeccable and they are just genuinely mean.

    At last the voice of reason :T. Oh - er :rolleyes2 - sorry, I'm going.

    you know what quite alot of people in britain have become corrupted with our debt soceity. I guess people call it keeping up with the joneses or similar.

    I like a quite drink but am such a scrooge compared to other people.. i like a night out a pizza hut and the odd 30 quid meal for wife and I. I'd die paying 100 quid on a meal... just seems such a waste of money...I think us britains have been living like we are richer than we really are.... and now its starting to come back and haunt us.

    Again though, some building professions are way overpaid... such that a few years back people with degrees retrained as plumbers and leccys.... so crazy if you ask me that a scientist someone so intelligent so bright that not many people could that job... woudl quit and become at plumber... so crazy britain.. so wrong... but an example of what went wrong.

    So what we had was... instead of rewarding scientists and innovators in our world.. that would make us more competitive in the world... we had toilets fitted, drained, cleaned and central heating systems fitted.... well at least we are warmer...until gas prices become too high... ah well.

    Funny. I wasn't feeling that mean before this thread started.
  • Houses have been over valued for years. It's all down to greed. Sales have slowed down because people wont reduce what they're looking for now that it's a buyers market and prices have dropped.
    They also over stretched themselves to buy their houses in the first place, paying more than they were worth for fear that someone else would offer more. I can see why to a certain extent as some serious househunters were paying for 4 and 5 surveys before getting a property.
    With the banks removing a lot of their mortgages and actually looking at peoples incomes again, it's harder to get a deal.

    Yes, I am excrutiating ashamed of myself - for confiding my story to you people. I don't ask for help from anyone, never have done.

    As for the bullying - how many are there of you having a go at me? Someone told me that they wished I would die. I suppose that isn't bullying, but a perfectly reasonable person presenting a logical argument.
    Awesome, thanks. You just won me a bet. :)

  • I dont regard myself as a vulture just someone who when I finally got to a stage that I could buy was priced out of the market by the horrendous rises. I may not be able now to buy if they dont drop to my comfort zone. So I am quietly waiting to see if and its a big if a small property becomes available that suits my needs. I dont like seeing people homeless but what a strange turnaround. Owner occupiers becoming renters and renters able to become owner occupiers.

    I'm not sure it would be prudent to post it on here as I'm not sure it's within the bounds of politeness or indeed the MSE rules. I'm happy to state via PM though. :)
