Got the Wii - anything else needed?

Hi, I've bought my DD a Wii for xmas and it comes with the sports pack. Is there anything else that I need to buy? A friend's son mentioned getting an extra thing so that two people can play but I can't remember what it is.

Don't really want to spend more dosh but will do if it's something vital.

    Nunchuck

If you playing more than one player (2) need two remotes

    Mario kart and Mario world

    Wii fit (maybe)

    Spare batteries
  • Controller and nunchuck. Check on the box but I think it only comes with one of them.

  • When I got a wii for OH I had to make sure we had 2 controllers and nunchucks, and the best game I think you can buy is definitely Mario kart! Not met one person who hasn't enjoyed playing it.

The cheapest way to buy an extra controller is to buy it with wii play.

Also have you got rechargeable batteries? We use them for all our games controllers.
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.
  • yeah two remotes are handy so you can then play two player and getting them with the game like kitschkitty said will save you money, i'd also recommend the rechargable battery packs espec if like our house its used a lot!

You can play the wii straight out of the box and take turns with the single remote however I'd get another remote so more than 1 person can play at once. Wii sports is great fun. Wii play gives you a few more games and the remote for about the same price as a single remote if you shop around. Try Amazon first as they had a good deal when I looked a couple of months ago. After that you can add the Wii fit (£70) and more games as and when

Yeah, the standard Wii package only has one remote and one nunchuck. You'll need an extra remote if you want to play most two player games, including those on Wii Sports, and if you want to play stuff like boxing with two players on Wii sports, you'll need the extra nunchuck.

The extra remote is more or less an essential purchase, and the extra nunchuck is well worth having.

The best way to get the extra remote is to get Wii Play, which is a game that gives you a free remote (although it's more like a remote with a free game).
  • Hi, I'm in the same position, I've got wii console + sports and one remote, wii play + extra remote, & some games.

Now, my question is, is it simple to set up and get going as I'm sure I'm going to be required to do so (while cooking Xmas dinner, clearing up all the wrapping paper AND trying to have a good time too...!)?

How does it connect to the TV; scart?

Will I need any other leads or adaptors?

    Thanks!

it comes with everything you need - connects to the tv via scart out of the box.

You might want some spare batteries, but thats about it.

Very simple to setup - turn on and go.

If your TV has a component input you will get a better picture if you buy a component lead and use that instead of scart.

Buying Wii Play is NOT the cheapest way to get an extra remote it is more expensive than just buying a remote. It does give you some extra games but the only one that got played in our house was Cow Racing. If you can live without that just buy a remote.

For games Mario Kart is essential but then you may want an extra wheel. Super Mario Galaxy is also very good.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

Yeah, getting it going so it's ready to play games is pretty straightforward.

    From memory:

    Put batteries into the remotes.
Connect the remote sensor and position it on top of or beneath your TV.
Connect the console to the TV via either scart or composite.
Plug the console into the mains.

It should guide you through the rest itself.

There are other setup things you can do (e.g. if you want internet access) but they can always wait until you've got a bit more time spare.
