Kipper, Aldi don't sell bread flour (I wish they would) I get my bread flour from Morrisons, but I can't remember how much is costs.

    MDW

    Thanks.

I went to Asda today and found some strong white flour for 47p so i bought 8 packs...now to store it?
  • I've noticed that the slices in my Hovis seeded loaf have definitely got thicker and, this morning while making breakfast, have also got smaller.
    Not happy :-(

I haven't counted the slices in our bread but i had commented to OH not too long ago that bread doesn't seem to last him as long (hes the only one who really eats it) and i thought perhaps he was having more slices!

We have both noticed that thin bread no longer exists and sometimes the cheaper brands medium is the same thickness as the old thin so I wonder if that how the supermarkets are conning people that their bread is better value than the brand names as the brand name medium is much thicker if you see what I mean.

If you think you're sad I bet I can top that! last time we needed a new toaster i drew round a slice of bread and cut out a card template so I could try the toasters in the shops! Got fed up with most toasters not wanting to toast the whole slice unless it was turned during cooking. Got some weird looks at first but then even the sales assistants joined in trying to find a toaster that toasted the whole piece of bread LOL

Necro-posting always makes me wonder how someone has stumbled upon an old thread - not just on MSE but on all fora I post on.

I would imagine it is because this is the first thing that comes up when you google "how many slices are in a loaf of bread".
Also, there is no point making a new thread because if one on the subject already exists the new one is joined to the old one.

Maybe it's just because I've got more important things to think about than how many slices there are in a loaf of bread.......

When I'm buying bread, it's the quality that's important to me, not how many slices.

I get mildly annoyed that slices of bread from some of the nice 'farmhouse' style loaves don't fit properly in my toaster any more (I'm sure the used to). They are too long to fit in sideways, and too tall to go upright as the shaped to bit doesn't toast.

My life can't be all bad if this is the worst thing I have to grumble about :)

AFAIK large loaves have been 800g and small 400g for decades; they haven't suddenly got smaller. That's all that matters (apart from quality and style of bread, obviously).

I always buy an unsliced loaf and do it thin when I'm having sarnies and thick when I'm doing toast.
