thanks just updated those details...
i estimate at these figures , with the amount of bread we use i am losing out on about half a loaf of bread a week due to the diff in slice counts
which is 26 loaves a yer more than what i would have bought:rolleyes:Work to live= not live to work0 -
After reading this thread, i'm glad i make my own...i wonder how mny slices i get out a home cooked loaf?...I know i get 12 cobs/rolls from my mixture...i wonder how much the ingrediants cost now that things have gone up in value so much...i bet it's still less than the loafs you buy in the shops (and nicer)0

Just updated my xmas shop at Mr T's and the Toastie is now showing at...
£1.37  Thats almost 10p a slice...
Bread flour has gone from 43p to 73p as well,not happy..0 -
I've just checked Tesco's website and yes you are right it's now 75p! How can they justify this? Tesco has put so many prices up and i'm sure they can't warrent this...a few weeks ago i paid 68p for a tin of skinless boneless salmon, now it costs £1.38! I think it's time to shop somewhere else!
Does anyone know how much Aldi's bread flour is?0 -

cooltrikerchick - have you tried searching on here for an instruction book for your BM? What kind is it? One of us will prob have a copy.
11 slices for my white farmhouse 400g loaf from my local deli, £1.09 because I didnt have time to make one yesterday grrr......0 -
I am not sure where (and am having an "off day" so can't be bothered to search) but I have notes from a training course in about 1974/5 when I was taking a test to show that I could cater adequately for Guide camps etc, and I am pretty sure that the hand-out said that you could work on 24 slices to a medium sliced loaf.
I think that the weight of a large loaf is set by law, precisely so that we are not "done" by being sold short, but fiddling with the slice width and number is almost as bad, really, as Cooltrikerchick has discovered to her cost.0 -
On the other hand, if you make two thick sandwiches instead of four thinner ones, you save on the butter and filling
.
I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

addiscomber.... that is very interesting on how they are getting round the weight laws by making the slices thicker as they are not allowed to change the weightWork to live= not live to work0 -
