What does "per transaction" mean then? Is it per till receipt? or does it mean that if you were overcharged on 2 items you'd only get £2 back, as opposed to £2 per item?

That is correct, it used to read "per item" it now reads "per transaction", that will mean each visit/till receipt.

  • Got the £2 giftcard in ASDA in Bristol today.

Their instore bakery plain bagels were priced at 99p on tills/product label but at 60p on shelf edge. Went to Customer Services who handed over a £2 gift card and the overcharged 39p without hesitation.

Not sure if all stores have the same error, but a nice cheap way to get £2 and some bagels!
  • I was overcharged by around 40p a few months back for some apples (Cashier put them through the checkout with an incorrect PLU code). Knowing about the gift card policy, I went to the Customer Service desk and received the difference. I then enquired about the £2 gift card, as per policy, and the 'assistant' stated that it was only applicable to non-ASDA branded products. So for example, if the item had been Kellogg's I would be entitled to one, but as it was just a standard item of ASDA produce I was not (?!?!). The answer she gave me was quite obviously a complete and utter lie, but I didn't have the time to argue my case/wait for and then speak to a manager.

Wasn't going to leave it at that though, given that she was so dishonest, so decided to email ASDA via their website explaining the situation. Within the next week i'd received a nice detailed email informing me that I was in fact correct in my understanding of the overcharge policy, that the manager of the store (who was addressed by their full name in the email) had been informed, and to reply with my home address so that I could be sent a £5 gift-card (since received).

Not a particularly staggering outcome in my favour, but it's always worth standing up for yourself on principle. Especially when they treat you like a fool!

hmmm Im now wondering if I should maybe email customer services to explain what happened to me!

I bout shreddie honeynut which was on offer for £2 for £2 but got charged full amount for both. Went to customer services who told me that the offer was on normal shreddies and frosted shreddies but not the more expensive smaller boxes and that someone has put the pink plastic offer thing over the wrong item. I got refunded and apologised to but surely it was thier mistake not mine and they should have done it out of goodwill!?!?! Am I just being greedy!?!?!
