There are some vehicles out there with lights so bright that it's very difficult to see anything as they approach. Dangerous in my opinion.

Some git came up behind me the other day with the lights on main beam and I was dazzled even with the dip mirror moved. I slowed down to about 25 mph to let him overtake; then the two cars in front both flashed their foglights at him. He got the message and dipped at last. When I overtook him again, even his dipped beams were terrible.

The whole idea that it's ok to use these badly designed and illegal conversion units all year then swap them just for the MOT, as someone quotes above, is a warped fantasy of a load of self-absorbed posers and chancers who presumably have such bad eyesight they shouldn't even be driving in the dark.

Those police officers needs to update their knowledge and to stop issuing illegal tickets to motorist who have legal units. These units are legal with projector headlight units. They are factory fitted to many modern cars nowadays.....I have seen a steady increase in the number of cars on the road with these lights. I have also seen car's with these lights without the projector units, this is what caused the dazzling as standard light units do not project these hid bulbs properly.

The VW ones are factory issue on all modern models (if not Xenon), and just a blue light version of the same output (60W?) which is a lot nearer to daylight vision.
