hehe about the ring, that's what I said!!! Aw god I feel for you living in Carlisle, I am only here cos I've been brought up here, wanted to move away for as long as I can remember!! Can't imagine someone actually choosing to live here lol.
The problem is that the job in Carlisle won't be able to transfer me over, I asked them about that when I was there over xmas and they basically said that there's a very small chance of it. I would only be doing it until we find a house, and all of OH's family live in the North East (scattered over in various areas lol) so the worst situation is that we stay with them until we move into our own place for a couple of weeks.
OH does need a kick up the bum, I said to him last night "the ring I want is cheaper than the TV and you get that on 0% finance!!"
He wasn't sure what to say to that, he's worried that if he gets me a ring then I will be planning the wedding the morning after. It's not like that, I want to get married in the future but I want the relationship to progress, we've been in the same place for ages, and people have started asking when we are getting married
I really can't imagine commuting to metrocentre (the sushi place is opening up in the new yellow mall soon) for more than 6 weeks or so. As soon as I know whether I want to stay at the job or not then I will start looking for places to live. I think that although the journey is awful (made sooo much more bearable by the train from the 1900's!), its a job that I have wanted to do for a long long time so think that its worth sacrificing.
I'll tell him about the LG TV's, he won't be happy, he loves LG but the one we have now is a sony and I love it so would prefer to stick with them.
Thanks for the advice

hi hun,
had to smile at ur reply. I went to uni in Carlisle for a year back in 1999, I only chose it because it had the course I wanted. Dad was born in Brampton so there was a fair bit of persuasion on his part there, ha ha. (even though he hadnt been there since 1942 :rotfl: ) I didnt find it too bad - but of course back then it was fairly easy to get a job, I worked for a little while at Allsports on Scotch Street and then moved to JJB in the Lanes. But I know there isnt a lot of options there so Newcastle/Metrocentre probably is the better bet for a steadier job.
Do they still run those horrid little trains on the Newcastle-Carlisle route??? They were filthy, smelly and horrible when I used ot get them (10 years ago) but I live in Leicester now so I havent seen any recently, but I used to resort to getting the bus sometimes as I couldnt stand the train journey!!!!!!!
anyway, glad I could be of assistance - keep us updated!

The bus is tempting because its cheaper but I would have to leave much earlier and I remember hearing something about the frequency of buses being cut to only one or two a day so I have to get the train really. Can't drive (yet!) but at least I will get through my library of books every day!
Oh I remember allsports, don't think it's there anymore, if I remember rightly now it is a snowboarding/mountain climbing type shop these days but have to admit I don't pay much attention. If I'm doing any serious shopping then I tend to go to the metro for itIt's much nicer since the smoking ban came in!!!
thanks for the help:hug:

Hi SLJ,
Just been reading through your diary- I really can relate to how you feel! I lived with my in-laws (i know not quite the same as parents but same difference!) for about three years! My OH got made redundent, and we already had booked our wedding, sent out invites etc so felt it was too late to cancel, so went ahead with it and carried on living with them after. It's tough going isnt it, especially when your used to just the two of you! How are you finding it? Have you thought about doing Avon? Might be something to look into as it wouldnt interfere with interviews etc?
I think you should give OH a good shake- Why pay out for a new TV when you have one that works (pressumebly?!) and he could be throwing the money at your debts each month? Men eh!
Keep smiling,
Pod x0 -
yup allsports is gone, it went into admin a few years back, i used to work in the metrocentre one when i was 17 haha. really badly paid (£2.75 was before the below 18 minimum wage) but i had so much fun there winding everyone up. good times!
btw i get the bus and the metro for an hour every day to and from work, it's a killer some times but it's nice to just sit back and relax. and now it's home time for me!HSBC CC - £3000 / £3000
Halifax CC - £1032.77 / £1032.77
Mortgage currently at [STRIKE]£82,299.71[/STRIKE] £76,017.62 would love to overpay0 -
poddington_pea-yeah it's pretty poop. I texted my OH saying that if he gets the tv I want a ring. He said to put my finger in the coaxial lead and that would be a ring.... i'm not sure what the coaxial lead is but don't think its made of white gold with a diamond!!!
fallenwiccan-that sounds bad, a friend of mine worked in JD and they were below minimum wage last year. £2.75 is awful!!! Yeah, i can read on the way there and sleep on the way back!!!

no problem hun - glad i could help!!!
oh your OH is such a wit  tell him what you would like to do with the coaxial lead and its not sticking your finger in it :rotfl:
I used to get paid pretty rotten wages in Allsports - and they were the most unflexible bunch of people I worked for. I was only supposed to work at weekends but they kept telling me I had to go on for shifts when I was supposed to be at lectures during the week and when I told them this they said 'you have to or we'll sack you!!!!' Sheesh - with an attitude like that no wonder they went bust!!!:rotfl: JJB were a lot better - my boss there said that uni always had to come first and if I wanted extra shifts just to say which was good.
Does that bus still run? My god, I thought they did away with it altogether!!! Its a nice journey but it used to wear me out!!!*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200 -
Hi guys
I posted here a few days ago panicking a bit about Mercers and Natwest. Mercers have as usual ignored my letter (grrr!) but have just got a reply back from NatWest.
I wrote to them complaining because I had asked them to remove my parents landline number from their records but they ignored that. There was a letter the other day letting me know that it had been passed to customer care and that I would hear from them soon.
The letter today is very nice and not mean at all (for once!) and they have refunded my charges which is over £150! There is still interest going on the debt but they have accepted my £50 a month payment starting end of april
I am wanting to cook chicken drumsticks in the slow cooker but can't find any recipes (been on OS board for half an hour!) so going to cook them in the oven and put some bbq sauce on them with some chips
Got some birthday money so trying to decide what to get with it, not much only £40 but enough to put towards something nice. Just can't decide what the nice thing is!! I know as a DFW I should put it towards the debt but its the first bit of money I have had this year so going to treat myself :P

Update
Oooh I haven't updated in here on aaages!!
I have had a weird 3 months! I got my xmas temp job back but full time and permanent. I love the job, it is truly the best job I could have, am earning 1k a month (which is slightly more than OH who gets a bit annoyed by that!)
I am really ashamed to say that I have ignored by DFW-ness and gone on a bit of a spending spree, I haven't really been able to spend my own money since jan/feb last year and gone a bit crazy. Not bought anything silly, just lots of little things. Been feeling really ashamed and stupid which is why I haven't been around much.
Having trouble with mercers and now moorcroft (as opposed to natwest) because I asked for a F&F settlement with moorcroft which was about 60% of the total debt. They have ignored my 3 letters (one sent recorded) and have started harrassing my parent's landline number.
Moved back out in July after having big arguments with my mother about me "working in a shop" and when we worked out what our combined income was, we knew we could rent again. Now living in a gorgeous end terrace paying just less than 400pcm.
We didn't factor in my stupid spending and now OH has had to transfer the remainder of his "spare money" into my account to cover the rent that comes out in the morning.
Mercers have also ignored my letters but when I went in to the bank to change my address, they would basically not let me leave until I left a contact number. I gave them my mobile number and within 3-4 hours was getting hounded by Mercers again.
I have asked for all of my numbers to be taken off their system and not to be contacted by telephone, can Mercers and Moorcroft do this still? Am I worth writing a complaint-just to make me feel a bit better?!
My mother spent 20 minutes on the phone telling me how stupid I was and how I should just pay them. My exact words then were "should I just pull the money out my a***?!" then OH took the phone off me as I was getting upset.
Don't know what I'm going to do. I know its my fault because I missed a payment (moving house etc, completely forgot....) and now they won't leave me alone but it's making me feel like hell. The last time I felt like this, my doctor tried to put me onto antidepressants and I'm scared that's going to happen again.
Any advice anyone? Really down about everything now.
