I've got box files full of stuff. Some go back to the early 2000s.

Most of it I've got on the computer, and TBH I wouldn't know where to look for something I need if I had to rely on the box files!

You've given me another thing to sort out in the new year. Most will probably end up in my parents attic.
    Looking forward to the future.

When I finish i'll end up scanning everything in, spend hours naming everything and then never look anything up again lol

I graduated a year ago after studying engineering and I still refer to my notes now and again. I imagine it depends on what you did at University and the relevance of job you have afterwards - still it's always nice for a bit of nostalgia!
  • i graduated in maths in 2003, and then in medical statistics (MSc) 2005, I have kept everything so far. The MSc notes I keep at work because they are directly relevant to my job. I haven't gone back to look at the undergrad notes yet, but may in future, as I've just started a PhD and the maths notes go into a lot more detail on theory than the MSc ones do. So I'm glad I kept them.

However having said that, the undergrad notes are in boxes in my parents' loft. We definitely wouldn't have room for them in our flat (although my fiance's are under our bed!) so when we finally get our own place and my parents summon me to remove all my crap from their house, I may have to pare things down!

I remember throwing away my A-level notes when I graduated in 2003, although I did keep a few bits and bobs for posterity.

What notes? I never took any. I began one Oxford notepad at the start of my degree and finished it with my last essay in the third year. (This was before word processing.)
  • I went into a career that was relevant to my degree (engineering) and kept all my notes for about 10 years until they were destroyed in a fire. However I had not looked at them since leaving uni (unlike my course textbooks which did prove useful and happily were not caught in the fire).

I get rid of notes at the end of each academic year, i keep marked coursework and essays though. I use textbooks if i need to refer back but i'm on a very textbook heavy course so I get away with this.
  • i held onto mine 2 years after graduating for sentimental reasons - but took the plunge and threw out most a few months ago except for my graded work.

I kept mine for 9 years after I graduated, then binned them as they were taking up way too much space!
