Thanks to all those lovely MSE'ers on here who have said thank you to those of us who are working Xmas Day and cant be with our families... Im welling up now!

I've just come back from a precious week with my family in the North East. Im a nurse in Leicester and will be working Xmas Day. I will be spending the afternoon with my partner and his dad and stepmum but will desperately miss opening my presents with my mum and dad and seeing my nephews' faces as they open their presents....

    *wipes eyes*

Oh, ignore me, Im a soppy so-and-so. Merry Xmas everyone!

Dependent upon the type of prison they are guests at, they can receive certain gifts from family members which are pre-approved and dependent upon their priviledge level. Generally, they don't exchange gifts, all personal property is listed to each offender, so it's not really possible to "give gifts".

A reasonably traditional Christmas dinner is available to those who choose it, though as Her Majesty's Prison Service are a diverse organisation, recognising all faiths, other menus are also served on Christmas Day.

Many prisons have visiting on Christmas and Boxing day, which means families can still be together for a little while. Christmas is a difficult time for both offenders and their families, the staff strive to make this time as pleasant as possible for both parties.
    Hope that helps! :rudolf:
I assume that friends /relatives may not bring in Christmas cakes?;)

Well done to all the people who work in A+E/hospitals at xmas, hope the drunks dont give you too much annoyance  :rotfl:

I'm a stay at home Mum. I am still at work on holiday, days off etc. Christmas won't happen in this house without me!

I'm not a SAHM and Christmas wouldn't happen without me! :rotfl:

The sad part is that some people don't have family to share christmas with and many don't like to impose on friends.

That may well be true but do they really need to go to the shops? I could not imagine being lonely enough to want to go to shops. I would rather stay in the warm, have something nice to eat and either watch a good dvd or read.

If I was on my own I think I would do some volunteer work at christmas.

Im a staff nurse working in the NHS, oncology ward, and I finish work at 8.15am on christmas morning, after 3 nightshifts. So I'm off most of christmas day but got the feeing i'll be wrecked by dinnertime !!!!

I've only got two nights in a row (tonight and xmas eve then off till the 27th night) so i'll be joining you on the asleep on the couch in front of a film brigade. Midwife instead of oncology nurse though

Just want to reiterate the thanks to all the special people on here! I'm lucky in that I finish tomorrow until 5th Jan (office worker) but you and your families will all be in my thoughts as will our lads and ladys in the forces away from home.

    C xx

I'm working Boxing Day (aka National Refund Day) at Argos and the rest of the time at Center Parcs - unfortunately Christmas and New Year are incredibly busy times there :(xXx

not many other places open though and no doubt they have plenty of time home alone all year without the TV reminding them "It's Christmas, lets be jolly" etc.

me too but some lonely people have got stuck in a rut and don't even have the confidence to go out and find where they need volunteers.

I'm working Christmas day, boxing day and the weekend. Working New Year's Eve as well. I work for the NHS so, like many of the previous posters it goes with the territory. Doing backshifts though so still get a bit of the day with the family.

Happy Christmas to all of you!:snow_grin:xmastree:
