Both my husband and I work for the police but fortunately for the last few years since i've gone jobshare after having the children I've fallen quite lucky with my shifts. I'm working mornings all weekend 6-2 and nights on the 23rd Dec (so is hubs). I am then off for a week so I can have some lovely quality time with the children. Hubs is working 12 hr nights boxing night in the cells bless him so he will be rushed off his feet!!!!
Christmas is always our busiest time with shoplifting, burglaries, domestics you name it. Its amazing how many calls we take on Xmas day:eek:Little Miss Chatterbox

i have managed to get away with only working crimbo eve , i dont have to do boxing day or any of the new years (have to go in 24th, 27th, 29th 2nd jan, 3rd jan but as a shop worker that is fab i think.
i agree with a previous poster about shopping on boxing day, nope, no one NEEDS to go shopping its a joke, our shopping centre is always rammed on boxing day and we have queues out the door, there is a reason we extend our 'bring back' polic, so that epople dont have to rush into town, baaahI smile because I have no idea what is going on!0 -
The only day I'm not working is Xmas day. Even New years day is work for me this year. The amusing part is it's all at standard pay.... hopefully I'll get the days back at some point.
im working too, but lucky bunny me gets time and half, tho it sucks i never get a christmas eve or new year's night off, but two weeks off in january kind of softens the blow, have a great yule... big hugs for all of us that are working x0 -

Thank you to all you wonderful people working for the services, hospitals and care homes and in shops too.
The country would grind to a halt without you. Hopefully you can still have some special times with your nearest and dearest around your shifts. :T0 -

I make a point of not going anywhere near shops on Boxing Day.0 -
I'm working everyday from tomorrow up to Christmas Day including 7am til 4pm on Christmas Eve. I work in the produce dept at my local Tesco and I know we will be so busy with people running around grabbing their fruit and veg to the big day. Last year we ran out of potatoes after having over 150 trays of them arrive and people were fighting over them!
My OH works within Army telecoms and is on shift Christmas Day and Boxing Day! Saving hard for a brighter future!:beer:0 -

A huge thank you to all of you Nurses, Doctors, and carers, emergency service workers, prison officers and everybody else who turn out to work over the Christmas period. :T  :T

Oh gosh you're all wonderful people working hard over the Christmas period! :T
.
I'm at university and not working currently (although I really should get a part time job, I'm hopeless at budgeting with my student loan!
), so after spending this past week frantically trying to finish all my assignments I welcome a nice long break... I don't go back until early February, but I do have my dissertation to write *cue wailing violins*, LOL. My boyfriend on the other hand is working right up until early evening on Christmas Eve in Leeds, he's then going to get a train down to spend Christmas day with my parents and I in Ipswich, and he should arrive here at 9.30pm
