Does she appear to be swallowing air and burping? It really could be that she has a splinter of bone caught in ther throat and its being aggravated by eating which is why shes being sick and doing the gulping - trying to clear her throat?

We had a similar thing with our dog last year. Quite a long post, sorry.

He started being sick occasionally, which over a few weeks became more frequent and then after most meal times.

They ran blood tests and he went under anaesthetic twice to have barium meals and x-rays and they could not see anything. He was put on Zantac and a special "wet food fish and rice" diet to see if that would help.

Eventually the vets said the only way to see if he had a blockage somewhere (apparently plastic bags are very common and they don't show on x-ray)! was to open him up and pull out all of his intestines, empty his stomach and physically feel for something that may be a blockage), they didn't find anything.

Following the op he came home for a couple of days and the sickness started again - he just got weaker and weaker and was put on a drip - the vets gave him 24 hours and were going to send him to the Royal Vetinerary College as he said they would work day and night to find out what the problem was. By this time he was on a drip (up until that point though he was still running around, he wanted to eat/drink and was happy in himself, this was what was so confusing, he wasn't a sick dog curled up in bed feeling sorry for himself).

I am happy to say that he did make a full recovery and it is still a complete mystery as to why the vomiting started, (the only thought is that he ate something like a bone (picked up in the park) which irritated the lining of his stomach and whilst he got rid of it, it caused a "reflex" action in his stomach). It took months to get him weaned back onto his old diet and off the Zantac/antibiotics etc.

If you are not happy with your vets treatment then do find another one and ask for a second opinion. If you live in the South East you could request that your vets refer him to the RVC? I hope you have insurance though because it gets very expensive!

Hi,no her diet hasnt changed she is on salmon and rice pro plan which is for sensitive tummied souls!!
Today she has had another sick free meal,so thats 3 in a row,and she seems pretty happy,no wind or any of the other symptoms.
My dog has also been given zantac and it seems to be pretty effective too,does ant one know whether it is the same as human zantac or just for animals,I would like to know in case we have any problems in the future!

Thanks for everyones help, I 'm hoping shes had a bug or something will report back if anything else seems to happen.

My dog does this a lit when she has gulped her food down too quickly.

Shes too greedy and cant wait to finish.

Our dog also shovels his food down, so we bought one of those bowls that make them eat slower as they have to eat around the "columns", also we didn't used to put water on his dried food, but now we do he takes a lot longer to eat it for some reason.
