motor world caution!

paid in full £299 using debit card at motor world for garmin zumo 550 sat nav, great price I even asked staff to double check price correct. Said they would ring me when it arrived at store. They rang to say cheaper model had arrived< I could have that and refund of price difference but the 550 had gone up in price and I would have to pay £374.99 if I wanted it. My solicitor sent lettersaying they had a binding contract with me-no response from motor world!! Letter resent recorded delivery also informing them trading standards informed. My solicitor has just phoned me to say a manager from motor world has just phoned saying he has just come from an administrators meeting they offered a full refund, but if I want the zumo 550 it may be six months as their supplies are wary of dealing with them!! Yet they are still taking orders for goods!! You have been warned!! Will let you all know the outcome. These zumo 550 are as much as £500 elsewhere

Motorworld have been in deep !!!! for months and I thought the whole world new about about it. Don't think there are many of them left open now. Would you have paid up front in Woollies ?

    Motorworld are a joke.

I worked for them many years ago. The upper echelons have the same contempt for their staff as they do their customers.

One store manager at the time had worked for them for 15 years and hadn't had a pay rise from them in 7 years. Why he stayed i'll never know.

Luckily mine was a stop gap after leaving uni. 60 hour weeks are normal as you're constantly being asked to cover as their staff turnover is so high. I worked there for 5 months and saw 4 shop managers come and go and 3x that number of shop assistants. Part of the problem was the area manager who was a total a***hole, a proper schoolyard bully. He single handedly caused most of the managers to leave, plus anyone who had to stand in for them.

I saw that guy 5 years later working as a shop assistant in a motorcycle accessories shop. How the mighty had fallen. Real poetic justice.

I remember the day i left vividly. My manager was on the sick (he never went back) and i had been running the shop for 10 days solid with no days off 7:30am - 7pm every day.

We were extremely understaffed and only had one part time assistant, the shop was large and busy (for motorworld) and should have been crewed by 4 staff. Luckily i was serving my notice as i had been offered another job. I was in on my own that day (again) with no assistants and had been for a couple of days and was desperately trying to keep on top of things, restock shelves, keep the place tidy, serve customers, etc etc, basically do the job of 4 people.

One of the senior managers from head office 'dropped in' and went off about the fact that not all the stock from the delivery 2 days earlier was out and said i was lazy.

I handed him the keys to the shop and walked out. My only regret is not being able to see his face several minutes after i'd left with customers coming in expecting him to serve them and him not even being able to work the till.
  • Got my £299 refunded yesterday, will go elsewhere and motor world will have to pay the extra it will cost me to purchase elsewhere!! Trading standards onto them now! Felt sorry for the 2 guys working in the shop, they told me motor world was taken over 6 weeks ago by another company:rolleyes:
