Please excuse my stupidity but I have Vista and have just downloaded firefox but do I need the no script plugin too?:o
I already have Superanti spyware and AVG anti-virus plus firewall...is this suffice?? Thanks
Every known (well that im aware of) trojan that comes through a webpage uses 'scripts', which is what NOSCRIPT will stop
So yes, you would be MUCH safer using noscript:idea:0 -
NO script although it can be a pain, is great as a security addon, its a must have plugin
Just be careful when you do use it use it wisely and not let every Tom !!!!!! or Harry get carried away on your browser0 -
I think the BBC article isn't much more than scaremongering, there's been hundreds, if not thousands, of exploits that allow this same sort of effect across every browser and every platform that have never been reported, but it must have been a slow news day to roll with this poor article.0

Thats my thought too. Though id still recommend firefox over IE, as IE is by far the main one for being 'hit' by hackers due to the sheer volume of users.:idea:0 -
I agree it gives you a extra level of security better to stop at source
Whilst FF isnt 100% safe it evolves a lot quicker than ie so any vulnerability is soon patched already on 4 updates this year 3.04Every known (well that im aware of) trojan that comes through a webpage uses 'scripts', which is what NOSCRIPT will stop

Is it necessary to uninstall IE or can it co-exist with Mozilla FF?0

It can work with Firefox!0

If nothing, hopefully this article might have prompted people to ensure they are running the latest updates and versions of programs. Although, it's important with whichever browser you use that you take time to configure it when you've installed it to ensure it's security settings match your browsing habits. Just because you've been recommended to use x over y, doesn't mean out of the box x is automatically ready to go and secure.
As ever, the software is only as secure as the person telling it what to do..Whilst FF isnt 100% safe it evolves a lot quicker than ie so any vulnerability is soon patched already on 4 updates this year 3.04
Not to be pedantic, but I've counted 7 cumulative updates for IE7 within the last six months, which is in the same timespan that Firefox 3 has been released.0 -

I learnt that lesson about 12 years ago, when I started using Netscape Navigator, then Opera for a few years, now Firefox. I can't remember when I last clicked on an IE shortcut (maybe once on a clean install to browse to mozilla.org)Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0
