Getting new cam-belt kit fitted-water pump as well??

Hi all!
Go gentle on me as I'm not that technical (!) Recently had the alternator belt go on my 106 xnd (p plate)...recovery people took it to a garage who fixed it...but advised there was some 'noise' from the cam area of engine..& whatever it was could go pretty soon (they could not say what it was as they'd have to examine it first).
On taking advice from a friend (who unfortunately lives 200 miles away!) & getting a 2nd opinion from another garage (who listened to engine & said 'deffo worn/problems but does not sound like the water pump) & getting it done tomorrow-full kit fitted for £235 dead (phoned around prices varied from main dealer £360 to one man band at £190 ish)-no extras..(did find it a bit cheaper from a 'one man band' but preferred to pay a bit more to get it done at a well known chain)...my question is.... do you think it's worth having a new water pump fitted anyway?? car has done 100000 miles (I've had it 5 yrs-done 30000 miles in it)...I'm guessing it's easier to fit with cam belt off?? Are they prone to failure??? Seen on the web pumps are £20 ish...so guess an extra £40 (??) odd to fit??
Any advice?
Thanks in advance!

I would get the water pump done at the same time.0

Read on the PUG spares site that the cam change is every 5 years/36000-whichever is sooner.....have had car exactly 5 years & done 30000 miles in it! As the Peugot 1.5 engines are said to be so good hopefully I can 'future proof' it for a couple of years!
Phoned the garage & they say approx extra £60 for part/labour to fit pump....excessive or not?? Seen pumps on-line for £25....??
Thanks for taking the time to answer!0 -
Me to, easier to have everything done at once. The labour costs will be cheaper too.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4

Not cheaper as such, but cheaper than having them done seperately
I'd get it done too.:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Please don't be offended if that opinion differs from yours, but feel free to click the 'Thanks' button if it's at all helpful!0 -
Thanks so much....ulness mechanic says 'ABSOLUTELY NO NEED' (!) will get it fitted!0

It's worth asking about the crankshaft pulley and idler bearings as well. On some but not all cars the pulley has a rubber insert inside to absorb vibration, and this can fail with time; on my car that's £100 on its own, but I still had it changed0

Also ensure all pulleys and tensioners are also replaced (which they should be).0

The 2.0 HDi was prone to that,as I had mine done just as it was on the verge of dropping off.
Ken.That's my mutt in the picture above.0 -
full belt kit, this includes a belt and all tensioners and pulleys.
make sure they use a good belt amnufacturer. gates are the best to use.
if the pump is behind the belt or runs of the timing belt then yes get it changed while the belt is being done....work permit granted!0
