Car keyed when parked in street

Where I work, there is no car park and therefore I have to park in a residential street. On returning to my car yesterday I found it had been keyed on five panels.

It's a quiet road so my guess is some 'brave' resident took exception to my parking and decided to 'teach me a lesson'. A cowardly and typical of the passive-aggresive actions that seems to be prevalent in this country. I wasn't blocking anyone's drive, was parked carefully and I'm gone by 5:15pm every night.

Before I could afford a house with a drive, I used to live in a terraced road and just accepted that I did not own the street. Often I had to park 5-10 mins walk away. I certainly didn't feel compelled to damage someone's property in a hissy fit. My goal was to better myself and buy a house with a drive/garage which I did.

I'm not going to stop parking where I do, so whoever did it is not going to force me to change. In fact, I'm more determined now! I'll get it repaired when I sell the car, as there's no point getting it done now in case it happens again.

I'm very angry about this and had to get it off my chest. With all the troubles of the world right now, is someone parking in your street when you're at work really such a big issue? If someone parked outside my house but was gone before I got home from work I really wouldn't care, but then maybe I'm not as small minded and petty as some...

  • Sorry to hear this has happened to you, the mentality of some people! Like dogs peeing to mark their terrotory.

Depending on the depth of the gouges you may need to get it fixed to prevent rusting?

There's no evidence that this was a resident or that you were specifically targetted.

Its much more likely to be some random passing no mark. He probably did every car he passed.

Unlikely. I have spoken to colleagues who say the residents are not happy with people using the street to park in, irrespective of the fact people are perfectly entitled to park there. The damage was done on both sides of the car which would hardly be somebody passing.

It's also a quiet road that doesn't have many people just making their way somewhere via this road.
  • I doubt it would be a resident, regardless of how annoyed it makes them when people park on the street, it's more likely to be kids with nothing better to do, unless you have proof who did it you can't specifically say whether it was a resident or a wild child.

Ultimatly not alot you can do except try find a cheap way of getting it repaired.

I think your theory sounds perfectly feasible Mathew and whats the betting that the perpetrator doesn't even own a car.

There have been several documented cases in my borough (reported in the local press) where residents have damaged cars of commuters who park on the street because there's no parking at the local train station.

This kept happening to a neighbour of ours, his porsche kept ketting keyed, the owner set a camera up and it turned out to be his neighbour in his 80s who was the one blaming all the kids!

Were they proven or again someone making accusations?

Not condoning the actions but without proof you shouldnt make assumptions. Having said that I would not park there again
