With many gps , you can directly connect them to gps aware pc, and then use a gps aware mapping software to show your location.
For i3, you need to buy something like http://franson.com/gpsgate/ $10 to translated the garmin output, and then feed it autoroute or something. That can be cheaper than german maps etc if you travel rarely to a new country or want a larger route view.0 -
hollie.weimeraner wrote:The i3 does have voice guidance and european maps are available to purchase separately. It depends what you want - if you want all singing all dancing with routing options then expect to pay in excess of £300. Myself, I have Autoroute on my computer and use the sat nav in conjunction with that - works a treat!
Now I am confused - I would like GPS to drive to italy once a year - a journey I have done for 25 years without GPS. Does the I3 have main route maps to Italy - that would be great - I don't need guidance or bells and whistles, but an idea of where i m would be the business. my next requirement would be when i'm looking for a chambre d'hote etc - i have a laptop, which i take - can i plug the garmin into it and use the laptop for route planning? that's all I need - apart from a large suction holder so i can obscure the windscreen with the laptop - :rotfl:0 -

You should investigate whether it is compatible with cables for other devices like mobile phones (like Motorola razr etc.) or mp3 players that use the same mini-usb connector which may come cheaper.0 -

I've had an i3 for about three months now and would recommend it unreservedly. Its available now at Halfords for £129.99 and I can't see the point of paying over £100 more for a TT1.0 -

I agree, but then it's up to the individual to make the choice.0 -
yeah, seen loads at halfords. Are the i3 controls easy to use? Can I get a free downloadable list of speed cameras for this?

if you can use a mouse you can use the i3!! The best speed camera database now cost £2 for a download or £19 for the year.
This is a good link for the i3 from the US, bear in mind that the UK version comes with the maps already loaded on a 256mb memory card.
