These sat navs will be down to under £50 I reckon in 12 months time, going to hang fire.

We are plannig a trip to Germany and there is an idea to get a Sat Nav instead of paper road map. I am a bit concerned that they may not contain map of Germany. Any ideas which devices have it preloaded or would it be possible to get from somewhere for free (or very cheaply....)?

Get a map as well. The thing I miss is the overview a map gives you.

Also useful if the Sat Nav lets you down - you can't always trust technology.

I'm in the same boat - european maps are expensive. I'm thinking of getting the £200 Navman from Halfords and buying the european maps for this.

The Garmin i3 comes with basic coverage for europe in that it shows the A roads, but thats it, no voice guidance, no search or routing options.

One of the cheapest options with street level European maps included on CD(you'll need a computer to load the maps on to the memory card) is this Navman 510 PREMIUM(premium means you get european maps and a remote):

The i3 does have voice guidance and european maps are available to purchase separately. It depends what you want - if you want all singing all dancing with routing options then expect to pay in excess of £300. Myself, I have Autoroute on my computer and use the sat nav in conjunction with that - works a treat!
