  • Not quite related to the above thread but can anyone tell me what is on-peak and what is off-peak on my meter. In other words - Is Rate 1 off-peak, and do you know the tariff for both rates. I am with Scottish Hydro Electric. Many thanks.

Are you sure you are on Economy 7 and not confusing the charges for tier 1 units(primary units) and tier 2 units(secondary units)?

If you have Economy 7 your night units will cost about 5p a kWh.

re the two supplies to the immersion heater element when we used to install these there was an element that fitted into the top of a tank and had one long element and a shorter one for boost. The theory was the longer one would heat the majority of the old type cylinder whilst the short one would boost heat.

Newer style cylinders were prelagged and came with elements at the bottom and one half way up. These are of course more efficient and better at retaining heat than the old ones that had separate insulating jackets.

So whatever happens no doubt I will end up owing them, is that not always the case, but for some reason my E7 readings are high at the moment compared against the day reading if you get my drift.
