  • About £150 more than it actually costs. Just make sure that the breathers have been replaced at some point in it's life as it could lead to turbo problems...

Bloody horrific. Find a BMW specialist instead.
  • Depending on where you live,I've heard it's easily £100/hr.

There are plenty of BMW specialists all over the country. In most cases, not only are they cheaper than the [STRIKE]st[/STRIKE]dealers, they are usually more knowledgable too.

In fact the only thing dealer servicing will get you is the BMW stamp in the book.

Thanks for all your replies, but what are the breathers?

  • I use an independent specialist, £40/hour.

Bloke always highlights any wear and tear which may need replacing next time.
No complaints whatsoever, know him pretty well now and get personal touch eg. needed windscreen washers unblocking, done in 5 mins via airline with no charge. Try that on with a main dealer, no chance.

This from bitter ecent experience. Dealers very expensive, specialist garages much much cheaper but dearer that the -garage -round- the-corner.My local garage messed up my elderly but loved BMW so took it to a specialist who aqlso deals in spare and used parts.Worked out cheaper in the end because they knew the models and the things likely to go wrong
  • Im in a similiar position to leon where im planning to buy a 320d in 6 months time. For bmw owners out there, are there any additional costs I should be thinking about when I do finally purchase one? I have car insurance, mot, tax disc and fuel covered. Am I missing anything?

Also a full service costs £300 from a specialist however there are other service options such as a basic which is £150, how often do I need the full service? assuming I have the basic done every year?

    Thanks in advance.

I think it's every other service or one in three. The service indicator on the dashboard will tell you when it's due and which one it is.

BMW also sell cars with 3 & 5 year service or service and maintenance packs, which are transferable to new owners. If you are looking at buying your car from a BMW dealer, they often list this as one of the 'additional options' on the car details page.

If you find one of these it will help keep the costs down for a bit.

The service interval varies, but is typically between 15 & 22K depending on the type of driving you do - more motorway miles = longer service interval.
