 Having a bad day. I'm feeling so frustrated, angry at people who keep letting me down and I can't seem to shake it. Just feel like curling up into a ball and sobbing.Reality check - hit rock bottom on 15 Dec 2008 with unsecured debts of £29,136 and not enough money to live on

Having been there when I was in my early twenties I can relate to your situation.
The fact is that being in debt is like being overweight (bear with me).
When you are overweight the majority of the time you know inside what you have to do to fix it, it's a simple case of your calory intake is bigger then the ones you burn off. The solution is to eat less and burn more so you end up with a lower intake then what you burn and then you lsoe weight.
Debt has the same problems, looking at your SoA you are spendin more then you earn, unfortunatly due to your CC debts this is going up because you cannot earn enough to reduce this.
If you really want to fix this yourself and based on what you have told us I would lose the car, use publis transport (get up earlier and go to bed earlier to get your connections). I'd also get a job asap.
The alternative is I guess an IVA or something along those lines but I don't think it's recommended if it can be avoided.
A long time ago I lost my job, I had a few weeks to find another one before I would be homeless and it wasn't a great time but I sorted myself out. I ended up with 2 jobs, worked part time in McDonalds, haeted it and lived on beans on toast for a few weeks but I got my life sorted and that is what you have to do unfortunatly.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 1100 (Un-Confirmed)Total debt at lightbulb moment (January 2008) - £84,972.28Total debt now (June 2010) - £74,871.45Mortgage £26,456.31, Secured Loan 19,673.71, Credit Cards £28,741.43Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts0 -
Good Morning
I've just read your thread and I'm so sorry to hear of your troubles. Have you family around you? Have you fellow students to talk to? How do they cope?
There's nothing I can add to the other posters here but I feel your despair this morning. Are none of the suggestions viable? You know, cleaning jobs, seasonal ones, babysitting agency?
When I was younger I worked in a chippy and as a cleaner for 6 months whilst trying to find full time work. It wasn't easy, but it was possible. I worked cleaning 6am - 9am then home to doze for a bit then to chippy at noon till half 1, back home to doze till half 3 and chippy again 4 till midnight. It was hell, but possible.
As a world that's changing too quickly for any of us to get a grip I think we're in for a tough journey. I tell DH and son that money/things as we knew it is no more. We are being forced to alter our relationships with just about everything now.
I wish you the very best of luck in your journey. I hope you get a break soon and find work.Grocery Challenge M: £450/£425.08 A: £400/£.May -£400/£361 June £380/£230 (pages 18 & 27 explain)0 -
Thanks, Fletch. I've signed up to a few babysitting places but haven't heard anything yet. I'm also checking with the job centre daily and looking for adverts in shop windows when I allow myself to go near town. Nothing yet tho. Got a local paper the other day to look for a job but there were only a handful and none of them were suitable. I've never seen the job page look so sparse before. I'm sure something will come along.
I do have family close by but I really don't want to burden them with my worries. My sister worries too much as it is, especially about me.
I know I'm feeling much worse about all this because I've just come off my anti-depressants. Really bad idea but they were messing with my body. I just feel so low. I'm sitting here with the tears rolling down my cheeks. If I could run away from everything I would but I know my head and my thoughts would come with me.Reality check - hit rock bottom on 15 Dec 2008 with unsecured debts of £29,136 and not enough money to live on

You really need to get some extra money coming in over the Christmas holidays, does your University have a Job Shop or careers adviser that can help?
You could also sign up to be an exam invigilator (lots of the local high schools need them and they will all be having exams in January) a good sourse of income. Walk into some local shops and ask if they are hiring and bring a copy of your CV, you need to be proactive here.
Oh and good luck, it may look bad now but when you start to do all these little things it will all start to look a bit better0 -

Argh! Talk about a bad day. Knew it was too good to be true when my car passed its MOT the other day. Really thought thinks might start to improve from there but no. Dodgy electrics in my kitchen have meant that my freezer has been off all night and all the food is ruined. Merry bloddy Christmas. Just want to go to sleep until its all over.Reality check - hit rock bottom on 15 Dec 2008 with unsecured debts of £29,136 and not enough money to live on

Massive hugs xx So sorry to hear you're having such a rough time with it all... it will pass though, and it will get better. Take care and be kind to yourself, you deserve it xDebt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0

Mupeteer - all is probably not lost with the freezer contents. Pop over to the OS board and post up the contents and we'll see what can be salvaged even if it means a lot of cooking etc today. We can also help get that grocery bill down for you if you like - again you'll need an inventory of the contents of your cupboards but we can help - I promise.
All the very best with your situation - things really can only get better from here and you've done the most important thing now by facing up to the problem. Now you've faced it you can get control of it - much as that seems impossible at the moment.

Anyone else want to kick me when I'm down? I stayed ay my BFs last night after he persuaded me that I'd be better to have some company. He was right but today I went out to my car and found that some !!!!!! has scored all along one side of it - deep scores in all 4 panels on the drivers side. Bloody wonderful. Just wondering what'll be next. Can't take much more of this.Reality check - hit rock bottom on 15 Dec 2008 with unsecured debts of £29,136 and not enough money to live on
