Flight to Bangkok - beat my price?

Me again! This is my booking-holidays time of year! :D

OK, the cheapest route I can find to BKK is £516 from Heathrow - 10 April to 4 May. I am flexible on airports but not dates (could go from 9-11 April and return anytime from 3-5 May).

If anyone can beat this I will be very grateful.

  • Kayak has £501 for those dates, not much but a little. Its in the easter break though and also the Thai New Year falls in that period so seems its expensive. I was quite shocked by the prices, but hopefully in the new year we will see some sales and prices will be more competitive.

  • I can't remember which airline. Forgot about Thai New Year as well, oops!

Do you think I should wait and see if there are sales coming up?
  • By the way, one of the flights had a 3-hour stopover in Mumbai. I would love to visit Mumbai. How do you change the stopover to (say) 2 days?
  • If you are fixed on those dates then it could prove a nightmare if they become unavailable.

I would look at it this way and this is MY opinion and my opinion only.

The airlines are surely going to have sales, they must be feeling the crunch and this should become more so in the new year when people finally realise just how bad things are becoming.
Oh and dont forget all those pennies spent enjoying Christmas that people will have to pay back. It really makes me feel some bargains should be available to try to get people to spend.

Add to that the fact that Thailand has been, and still is going through some of its own personal problems lately. These are by no means sorted out and numbers for tourists are down, according to some worse than in the aftermath of the Tsunami. I think the way that works is that natural disasters pulled people together and so people did still go, whats been going on lately has not been seen with such sympathy.

This makes me believe, deals will be out there for people that do want to go.
Like i said this is just my opinion and the reasoning behind me waiting. Ideally we aim to travel at around the same time as you, although we are flexiable if a deal comes along for earlier we will take it.

Yes, we are sort of stuck on those dates - I would like to book but am tempted to wait for a bargain. But then I would be upset if the flights went way up in price or were unavailable for those dates. I can't see them getting much dearer as lots of people will have been put off travelling to Thailand recently. Ho hum. What to do?
  • The only way i see them going up is if people pull flights from the route. I know that Thai Airways have cut quite a few flights across the board, but cant say how long for or if they will put them on again.

I am prepared to wait, but like i said i am flexible, i can go anytime from now really. With regards to going over, maybe im daft but im not put off one bit. I will also be taking my son who is 2 over with me and would never do anything to deliberately put him in danger. Before i became a mum i lived through sars, bird flu and a Tsunami in Asia it would take more than this to put me off.

I cn understand why it is too much hassle and worry for some people though, especially if they have not been before.

Do you really want to go to Thailand in April ? Stinkingly hot then and have you seen the rate of the baht to the pound at the moment ? You might want to see how far your pound doesn't go now and Thai prices are not as cheap as they used to be, I've noticed a real difference over the last few years when I've been there :( Hope you get a good deal, but check out the exchange rate and take that into account for your budget.
