Smokey grill/top oven

The top oven/grill in my (electrolux) cooker is very smokey, despite frequent cleaning.
Anyone else suffer this?
I rarely use it as an oven & frequently as grill (mainly for rashers!).
This is from the website
Now its my understanding that self cleaning ovens need to be run occassionally at a very high temp (max) to burn off & clean themselves, this I do, but its still very smokey.
I'm doing it now & its really fumey.
This doesn't happen to the bottom/main oven.
I wondered if I grill the bacon too close to the bars & they have bacon fat in them?
Anyone else suffer this with your grill/top-oven.
Looked at the website (can't find the manual) & it says nothing about it really

Catalytic liners
The catalytic liners in the ovens absorb the splashes and
grease from cooking. When cooking at high temperatures
food residue is burned away making it very easy to clean. The catalytic liners in the ovens absorb the splashes and

My guess is that you may be grilling too close to the grill itself (like you said), my grill used to smoke a lot but by lowering the height of the grill it was considerably better. Run the grill for a while with nothing in it untill the smoke stops, this should burn of any residue on the element.
Also don't use foil in your grill (shouldn't ever use foil on an electric grill anyway) and keep it spotlessly clean.
Good luck0 -

Sorry But could you explain why you shouldn't use foil in an electric grill i have been doing this for years not to cook better or reflect the heat or any reason other than it stops a lot of grease and sh!te cakking up my grillpan.
Should i not be doing this ?

Hi Matbe,
I too used to use foil in the grill pan for the same reasons you did, plus I thought it cooked the food a lot faster. But I then read the instructions for my new grill and it said you should never use foil in an electric grill as it can dramatically decrease the life of the element by reflecting heat back towards it. Also they say it can increase the chances of the grill going on fire.
As to whether the manufacturers were being over cautious I'll leave that to you to decide, now I just use the grill pan on its own and keep the annoying little soid clean. Doesn't seem to smoke as much either without foil.
