was told they were in need of replacement and i thought braking ability was part of the mot?

if not then my mistake sorry, but they did say they were on their way out

  • thanks everyone for your great advice :D

rev- the garage apparently only stock barums and have to order them in as they dont have the space to store them, they were cheap but i may have to stretch the budget to something better.

goldspanners- i think i will have to price those up as well, see what is available through the sites that will fit locally to me as they are anything up to £30 per corner cheaper than the garages.

harvey- i have never had a car long enough for it to fully go through tyres with me owning it, i only reasoned it must need some cos its been 20k miles and 4 and a half years since i bought these lol

vb i didnt know when i spoke to them tbh, i'll talk through the options with my dad before i do anything- he knows much more about cars than, well anyone i know so i will show him the prices and what everyone here has said

ask specifically for super steel 595's. the normal federals are rubbish but these are pretty good value for money.

    +1

The 535s (?!) are poor. Same with Falken. The ZE912 are good, medium wear, good grip etc but the 512s wear far too quickly and are poor in the wet.

bognorbelter seems a little obsessed by this company - they are mentioned in all of bognor belter's posts.

Think BB would get you a staff discount, then?:p

  • For anyone contemplating Kumho tyres I have a couple of pictures which will put you off them forever! The tyres (note tyreS, not just one) were splitting all around their circumference at the base of the tread. As a result I would be very wary of "budget" tyres of any make.
I can e-mail them if any one is interested?

Read a review in a car mag last month on cheap import tyres, they advised steering away from them. Even though they met european regulations, they performed bad in all braking / cornering tests. I ended up paying more for some decent continentals, but fell safer in the knowlegde that they are right for my car.
