My 2p worth suggests that if you have a more powerful CPU than the average, you may not notice the CPU overheads of Norton Internet Security as much as someone with an underpowered PC. Fortunately I am in the former category, and have been fairly happy with NIS for the last couple of years.

If I was going to change, it would probably be to ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite, which now seems to have worked out most of its bugs, and gets excellent reviews by monthly PC mags and internet commentators (about £50/year).

On my other PC I have been running the "free" ZoneAlarm firewall and the "free" AVG without incident. (I do have a hardware firewall router, too).

For an interesting review of the "benefits" of the recent Google Pack, see this article by Paul Thurrott.
