Buying a stolen/recovered car

We have used this particular salvage company before with no problems. They gave us (not a very good) copy of an hpi check that was done on 03 December and have told us that its not recorded as stolen/recovered. We would like to verify this but not sure that a basic hpi would show this up.

I think most HPI checks (at a price) will show this up but it may not be on the system yet.

We did our own check through mycarcheck.com and it shows as stolen recovered. The salvage yard say that its now clear on hpi but the DVLA do not update their records for 3-4 days, which is where other checking sites update their records from. Can anyone who knows how these things work say whether this sounds right or not? The car was advertised as un-recorded, which if this was the case it wouldnt have shown up in the first place would it?

A lot of salvage yards advertise as unrecorded when there know their not, nothing new there! I have yet to come across a unrecorded S/R
  • is it stolen recovered?

It is stolen recovered which we dont have a problem with. Just the fact they told us its 100% unrecorded.
  • does it matter to you if its recorded, or do you want to sell it on as a legit car

When we come to sell the car eventually will it then still show up as s/r. Cant see how its recorded s/r then 4 days later its not?

Doesnt matter to us, just thought it might put potential buyers off. We have had s/r cars before but older ones. This one is only 9 months old so a fair amount of money involved this time.

Still wondering about this, what percentage under trade price should we be paying for the car. Lowest we can get it down to is £1800 below.

if under the hpi check it's coming up a s/r then it has been recorded
i doubt they'll take it off unless it was put on by mistake
it's just the salvage company lieing
