Buffet style here too.
Big bowl of salad ( the full works;) Tradition from my Mum, and never going to be broken, even if it is greenhouse grown:p )
Platter of cold meats
Fully stocked cheese platter
Pickles, chutneys etc
sausage rolls, scotch eggs
any cold pigs-in-blankets left from lunch (there always are, I'd never hear the end of it if I didn't deliberately engineer leftovers:rotfl: )
crusty bread and cornish butter
Christmas cake, which won't get touched.
Florentines, which will be eaten.
Christmas pud and mince pies to be eaten with brandy cream, brandy butter, clotted cream. (notice the absence of or in that last part:o :rotfl: )
Tradition all the way!You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0 -
We have a range of snack foods as above, but don't like Christmas pud, so have a jelly-free homemade trifle made from loads of raspberries, plus swiss-roll, custard and cream.
I like the idea of soup though, we could all do with something light and healthy after all the sugar and carbs!....my child, when there were only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.0 -
got to have some warm vol-u-vents for xmas tea. my mum used to make mushroom in white sauce ones which were yummy hot.
tunis cake was another fav if you can find it anywhere0 -
I am just going to agree with all of you, soup is always good to have and you can make it the day before and food just laid out to help yourselves, ENJOY0

Great ideas, thanks!:j
We usually have left over pud eg meringue rolade or trifle and when it was my mum and nan doing Christmas always tinned salmon sandwiches (also a tradition). As I'm doing Christmas this year, I like the ideas above - might have a go a pate and a ham alongside pickles and cheese and crackers.:Dfinal unsecured debt to repay currently £8333Proud to be Dealing With my DebtDFW Nerd 1154 Long Haul 1550 -
I agree with all the above ideas.Cold meat platters/sandwiches,pickles,sausage rolls, coleslaw, cheeseboard, mince pies and biccies should be sufficient to satisfy any appetite
