I've not got a huge appetite, so I usually pass on the starter - which is usually some melon concoction or salmon.

I'm generally not bothered about christmas dinner. I think this year I will have my own alternative.
    Looking forward to the future.

Hi we love bagels with cream cheese spread on with smoked salmon on the top its lovely and can be made very nicely for not too much money .
Also half a muffin with warmed ham and a poached egg on top (looks much posher than it sounds) with a touch of cheese sauce over.
I ll look forward to hearing every-ones ideas though,i would quite like recipies for prawn starters if people have them.
    PP

We often do ther bagels & cream cheese for breakfast over xmas, but with smoked bacon rather than salmon.

In Jamies MOF book, there is a recipe for prawn cocktail, to try & put a new slant on it. Have you got that book?

I always used to do a starter, but then never had room for pudding, so this year I have decided not to do one.

In the past I have done:

    Parma ham and melon
Smoked salmon, creme fraiche and dill on blinis
    Pea and mint soup
    Warm goats cheese salad
    Vegetable terrine

All can be prepared in advance and just "put together" on the day

We don't do starters for Christmas lunch - or pud, we're all big roast fans so much prefer the main event.

One easy, light starter we do enjoy at other times though is a crispy bacon and avacado salad.....snip the bacon into tiny bits and fry until really crispy, some nice fresh crunchy salad leaves and a few slices of avacado - very tasty but not too heavy.

Thats EXACTLY what my daughter says:rotfl:

I suspose it is nearly as much a part of xmas dinner as turkey & trimmings & sherry trifle.

I said those because they are the new traditions to xmas dinner.
Because the REAL tradional xmas dinner is goose & xmas pud, but turkey & trifle are our modern traditions on it.

We do get a xmas put, but don't really love it, just eat it because its xmas:rolleyes:

Probably some home made soup - have yet to decide on the type, but have had pate, baked cheese and smoked salmon before. (Not altogether!)

Just remembered, might go for some Bradan Rost this year - had it before and it goes down a treat.
