read your public liabilty terms and conditions, 99% of insurers will only pay out if you have a suitable qualification which has been given out by one of the governing bodies(corgi, hvac, nieiec etc)

in the real world its qualifications that count, after all how do you know that the work you are doing is correct, just because you get return calls from customers that does not prove competance

I'm covered for everything I need to be, everything except the obvious..... gas and electric and I'm not daft enough to mess with them.
I've been living in the real world all my life, I read up on any recent changes in legislation that affect me. I get lots of work from jobs that "qualified" tradesmen won't touch, usually because there's not enough profit to be made or it means too much hard work. Just because someone qualifies, it doesn't mean they keep up to date with changing regs, some people are also lazy, they'll find an easier, quicker..... or cheaper ways of doing something, qualified or not, so that bit of paper doesn't always prove competance.
I know of one job that qualified plumber wouldn't do because it meant reshaping a vanity unit, he said "you'll need to get a joiner in" people don't want to be juggling tradesmen and paying through the nose, they want a good job done right...... and that's what I offer..... at a fair price. I even read up on the Sikh religion so as not to inadvertently offend a customer as I worked on their house, I don't look down my nose at other people, in the real world, it's quality, service, reputation and cost! with or without qualifications, you're only as good as your last job, the only thing that paperwork will do is get your foot in the door when someones thumbing through the yellow pages.
