Hi,
Is £80 a fair quote to fit a new mixer shower and do some tiling (1 sq foot max) ? Plus to fix two leaking taps - most likely new washers needed.
In the Glasgow area.
Thanks,

sounds like a bargain
changing shower and tap washers can be done fairly quickly but even with rapid set adhesive the tiling is going to take 3hrs before grout
i would be wary as a cheap job usually means bodgeHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0 -
We would charge you £80 just to fix the taps,So Yer it is cheap,But what are you getting for your money? I suppose a "Handyman" would work for £80 for most of the day whatever he/she is doing so sounds about right.OH THE JOYS OF BEING SELF-EMPLOYED!! Can Travel,Will Work For Free!0

plumber would take half the time but double the cost
then theres the public liability side of it, most handymen are unskilled and have no certificates to prove there competency, if you handyman causes damage then your up the creak without a paddleHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. What, are you saying plumbers actually have to train to change a washer, and you can get a certificate in it?0 -

I'm a handyman, don't have any certificates, but 25 years experience and previously owned 4 rented houses that were all well maintained, also have enough insurance cover to protect me something happen, and if anything was damaged.... I'd fix it! I never advertise, have lots of work, almost all of which is for repeat customers, a certificate doesn't prove competence, it proves I've been shown the basic skills in a classroom enviroment, experience out in the real world and recomendations are what count, I've seen some horrendous jobs done by the "bodge it, grab the cash and scarper" brigade, I can go to a college and get the qualifications, it wouldn't make me a better tradesman and it certainly wouldn't give me the right to criticise those who don't have them, I agree with your comment about plumbers charging double the price, maybe they would do the job quicker.... but I don't rush jobs, I'd rather take my time and do it right, make sure it's a job I'm proud of instead of running around doing as much as I can to make as much cash as I can.0 -
Sounds a good deal.
I'm in shock after a quote for our bathroom.
To remove 1 wall (bathroom is only width of bathtub and it's the wall into the room) and replace with new wall further out, remove layer of tiles, fit new bath and basin in existing position, fit new loo in a position 1 foot away from where it is now, install shower cubicle. Tile walls and floor, fit new down lighters and new radiatior £3500. On top of this I have to buy the bathroom suite, shower & cubicle, lights, radiator and tiles.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

read your public liabilty terms and conditions, 99% of insurers will only pay out if you have a suitable qualification which has been given out by one of the governing bodies(corgi, hvac, nieiec etc)
in the real world its qualifications that count, after all how do you know that the work you are doing is correct, just because you get return calls from customers that does not prove competanceHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Maybe that's a condition for yourself.
Mine certainly doesn't have any requirements, and to be honest if you do a cr*p job but show my customer a piece of paper to prove you could have done it right you would be out on your ear.
I get return calls because they're happy.0
