Please help! Totally confused re free Orange broadband and BT call package...

Hi.

Hope someone can help me as I am totally confused and cant find information online. I plan to phone BT tomorrow, but in the meantime any help would be appreciated.

My son moved into a flat with a phone line that had been deactivated.

We called BT and had the line reconnected/reactivated recently for broadband use only. (My son makes and receives no calls on this line - there is not even a phone in the flat.)

He has a pay monthly mobile contract with Orange which qualifies him for free Home Starter broadband. When we tried to order this, Orange told us we first have to switch our call package/ calling plan from BT to them, and advised this could cost us, in order to get out of the call plan contract. I didn't even know we had a contracted call package with BT; as far as I know I just rented the line. I certainly did not pay anything for the reconnection, and have just received a bill in advance for three months line rental only.

Can anyone explain this to me and advise me please?

ask Orange for Broadband Unlimited @ £5 for Orange customers or else cancel the order - BU is still avail to Unique customers so it is technically possible for a BU order & line rental/calls stay with BT

explain your in an 18 month line rental contract with BT & cant move only get broadband

what package did your son order ?

contract with BT - you either agreed to stay with them for 12 or 18 months of line rental when you ordered the line

Mr J, my post was not about the line rental, it was about the call plan.

Phoned BT this morning, and there are no charges and no penalty for swapping call plan to Orange. The line rental remains with BT, but the calls will now go through Orange.

Son pays line rental to BT, and fifteen pounds per month to Orange for his contract phone with (free) broadband.

upgrade to Home Select for £10 a month & get free calls to 01/02/02, Orange numbers & 30 international landlines

so if you spend £10 calling landlines & ( sons ) orange a month UPGRADE

you then have two landlines for the price of 1 lol
