Orange "Security bar" question

I just received my SPV C550 from the Orange shop online (must have been one of the last people to get one!), and in my confirmation and despatch note etc. it says that Orange have put a "security bar" on the phone while it is in transit, and I have to phone them up to register my details in order for them to take it off.

Thing is, the phone seems to be working fine, so I don't want to ring up and register all my details etc etc (I'm not even using an orange sim card in it anyway) if I don't have to.

So my question is... will they actually block the phone if I don't register my details? Or is it just a ploy?

Anyone have experience of buying a PAYG phone from orange online?

usually they block the phone so if it gets stolen in transit then it will be no use to the thief.
they must have not done it to yours so you should be able to carry on as you are.
if it did get blocked later then you have the receipt to prove ownership of the phone and you would get any bar lifted

I think it is the actual simcard they place a bar on, and not the phone (in teh past I was able to use my orange payg simcard in my phone, while i had to wait for my contract simcard to be unbarred after i rang up with my password etc

I bought an Orange phone and put in my own Orange sim. When I powered up it said something like ' phone barred ' but this then disappeared. Maybe as this sim was already known to Orange the bar was removed somehow. Then proceded to unlock with no problems.
