That's a really good description of how to do it Butterfly Brain. I would do just that then hope that all goes well and you manage to get to your relatives and then you can have an extra Christmas dinner to cheer you up on a grotty day in January - yum yum!

Did my roast potatoes and parsnips today. Cheesy leeks are already frozen. Need to decide what else I'm cooking now...

  • Why have i never thought of doing my veggies in advance..Duh,what a great idea....im working 12.5hrs Boxing day,so a more relaxed Christmas day would be appreciated(.OH did offer to take us all out for Christmas dinner, but its sooooo expensive,)Anyway I like the smell of the Turkey cooking on Christmas day,so i wont do that in advance(gonna do a crown in the Remoska),but i think after i get my veggie box delivery tomorrow i will make a start on the "trimmings"
I need to read through all 16 pages of this thread to see what else i can do. :)

I just wondered when everyone is buying their Christmas veg. I am planning on getting it tomorrow, as I think the shops will be hell from Friday onwards. Just wondered what everyone else is doing/planning:)

I'm doing the last of my supermarket shopping tomorrow, I might go at night time (24 hour opening) to avoid a crush. I find it unecessary to go last minute/day before unless I've forgotte something crucial. for example, on a normal week for people who do a weekly shop, things last a week till the next visit! So I agree, go tomorrow, and enjoy the holidays relaxing not shopping :)

    Hi,

I bought sprouts last Friday and they are sat in the fridge as we speak. :D

We only have roast potatoes, sprout and parsnips. Parsnips are frozen from the allotment. (I would have bought the parsnips and froze these if we hadn't had those) Potatoes were bought last Friday as well. They keep pretty well in our entry.

Tomorrow then I'm staying away! All the veg in the supermarkets today had a date of 23/24th on them - yes I know they won't go bad overnight, but if we don't use them all I want to keep them for another day or so for another meal!

I did buy my brussels sprouts on a stalk on Monday and they are living outside in the cold.
