Westcot credit services Ltd & MGT Ltd

Hello

I am in some desperate need for some help about a situation with the above companies.
I received a letter from Westcot saying i owe MGT Ltd £157.90 and if i don`t pay then they will take me to court etc. Looks like a pretty standard letter.
I spoke to Westcot and explained i knew nothing about this debt and i don`t know who MGT Ltd are, i was advised they supply an adult film channel through sky and to contact MGT Ltd about it.
I spoke to MGT Ltd after a few trys and was advised that if i know nothing about it then i need to go to the police station and ask for a data release form, i spoke to kent police and they said it is a form allowing a release of data covered by the data protection act and that as far as she was concerned i shouldn`t be making the application, MGT Ltd then said when i get the form to fax it over to an 0870 number.
I know nothing of this debt and am not going to pay it, also i don`t want this MGT Ltd having my personal details that are covered by the data protection act.
Can anyone help me? do i have to give them access to my personal data and what options do i have and what can they do to me?

I would send a letter to Wescot, as they are chasing the debt, asking for proof that you are the person that used this. Once you receive this post back and we can go over it.

Keep everything in writing though as DCAs have a habit of talking down to people.

another things do not talk to them over the phone , they are a bunch of bullys !

as menionted before keep everything in writing, ask for a copy of the credit agreement under CCA ( will cost you 1 pounds) start every letter with " i do not acknowldege any debt to your or any company that you represent" and do not sign any letter.( they have a nasty habit of copy and paste signature )

My husband has also had one of these letters chasing money for MGT and he knows nothing about this. Once before he had a letter from Robinson Way chasing a paypal debt. He has never had a paypal account so we queried it and asked for the credit agreement and sent the £1.00. The only response we got was the £1.00 back and a letter stating matter closed, no longer being chased. Obviously it was them trying to obtain money.
Might be worth trying this with Westcot and see what happens.

Follwing my previous post. Just found my husband's letter and they are asking for £153.90, fairly close amounts... co incidence do you think?
  • They should have told you when the debt was created / occurred.
If it was more than 6 years ago, do not send them anything, do not agree to pay anything, do not tell them anything at all other than to get bent. politely of course.

Don't phone them as they are a premium rate number, they'll keep you on hold for as long as they can and then tell you nothing while attempting to harvest information from you.

Sending them a pound and request for the credit agreement seems like the way to go.

    see above goto CAG
  • My son has today received a demand that was posted to a different address to where we live, the person there recognised his name and posted it through our letterbox. The demand is for £143.91. He has no knowledge of this debt.

Reading the above advice he is not going to telephone them, but send a letter saying that he does not live at the address on their demand letter and stating "I do not acknowledge any debt to your or any company that you represent"

One last thing, should he give them his actual address?
