Nope. The eight bank holidays that happen every year are on the same days as the eight public holidays - they are the same thing.
Also, January 1 is a Thursday this year, so you can expect your Direct Debits to go on the Friday, January 2.
I can't speak for other banks, but we're working that week apart from the Thursday. What would William Shatner do?0 -
To be on the safe side, make sure there's enough money for the Direct Debit in your account the working day before, which would be on Wednesday. Few banks will let you pay in the money on the day and escape charges.0

I already said above, it is a bank holiday.
Since you're clearly not paying attention, have fun with those bank charges.0 -
Of the 8 public holidays, only Christmas Day and Good Friday are not officially bank holidays. Though, of course, the banks in the UK don't open on those two days.0

Sounds like she's unlucky. All the organisations that have paid me (ie salary/pension etc) have done so on the previous working day if payment was due at a weekend. Mrs dzug the same.0 -
I expect my Direct Debits to come out on the 5th January as the 2nd is also a holiday but always have the money there before they are due so it wouldn't matter if they came out early.
From my experience when there is a holiday money goes in (ie benefit or wages) before the holiday but payments out go out after the holiday meaning the account holder shouldn't lose out. :jLost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

January 2nd is a holiday only in Scotland, but not in England, Wales or Northern Ireland.

And before it's suggested, even the 3 Scottish banks use the English holidays. (there's probably more than 3 but I only know of RBS, (H)BOS, and Clydesdale)0 -
Other than a law dating back to 1871 - allowing banks not to conduct business on weekends and 'public holdiays' is there any technical reason preventing all payments (single future-dated, standing orders AND direct debits) moving on a seven day basis?
(Nope, thought not!)
Banks are being treated like solictors and other 'professionals' who can set their own terms and regulate our lives around their needs.
It's only money we are talking about moving on as frequent a basis as possible - not the crown jewels.......under construction.... COVID is a [discontinued] scam0
