Barratts - Offering parking space for £15K
Comments
-
Have to say son was over the moon when he found his repo flat included a private parking space in London which apparently costs £17k. It does make a lot of difference not to have to fight for a place in the limited parking spaces.
Depends where you are. We live in the middle of London, and have residents' parking for £80 a year. And no trouble finding a space, either....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Sorry for the delay (My compnay's xmas party yesterday)
We offered £10,111,11p as after a lot of thought we decided that the space would add value long term however the bid was NOT high enough!!
I called Barratts yesterday and was told that they'd sold 7 out of 10 at £15k and that the remaining 3 places were going to sealed bids.
I was told that we were 6th in line (needed to be in top 3) however they were still accepting bids and I could increase my offer. I asked how much and I was told to add another £1200 which would be £11,300
I rejected the chance to increase my offer.
There is a large private car park at the end of the road around 300 yards away so we can always use it despite it not being secure. a 12 month permit would cost £1800 and if we were to sell I'd add it so the flat came with 1 years parking.
Still a bit gutted but maybe its a blessing as we'd have had to take out a £10k loan, what with getting marrried on the 4th July next year and going to the Maldives we could have got a bit stressed.
This is our first purchase off plan and we've learnt a lot from it!!
Sorry but that is absolute horse sh*t....
The whole point of sealed bids is that they open them and the highest bids get the spaces.... they should not be offering you the chance to up your offer which shows what a bunch of dishonest con men they really are.
My guess is that these other bidders will mysteriously dissappear and they will come back to you soon, if that happens I would be tempted to say you were reducing your offer, but if you really want the space then thats a dangerous game to play.
I thought the deadline for the bids was Thursday so why are they still accepting bids now?
And if they are still accepting bids, why have they opened the others, they should remain sealed until they have finished accepting them....
This doesn't sound like sealed bids to me, it sounds like "get everyone to submit sealed bids and then wait until an acceptable bid comes through.0 -
Good evening All,
Just read your lastest comments and yes I too thought a sealed bid was not open to offers afterwards.
To be honest it came as no surprise that they asked me to up the offer and because they did thats why I pulled out.
Now I know the value of a car parking space the next time I get one offered for me I'll take 2 as the return is very good.
Now I know the value as well I'm thinking that if Barratts don't return (and I'm going to call them tomorrow to find out) then I now know the vlaue of a car parking space is £15k. So if I really need one I reckon I could send round a letter and I'm sure somebody would sell one - eventually.
For the time being we'll rent but this has been a good lesson and I'm sure that everybody who's read this thread has learn't a thing or to!! I only expected a few replies and views.
Merry Xmas to you all :beer:0 -
I hope it comes back to you as an Xmas pressie
