I have 3 current accounts with DD and SO on each and never before in 30+ years has this happened, how can it show a transaction taking place on a date before that date has even arrived? .
Most Banks merely restrict the 'available' balance for DDs going out on a Monday wef the Friday night. Halifax don't do that ... but they do pre-process internal SOs on the Sunday and actually show a posting in the statement .. but with the Monday date. Slightly different ... but same overall effect.
Also If a payment was taken out and a payment was paid into the account on the same day then the account would not become overdrawn..
Traditionally you haven't been able to do that as the funds need to be in place, with most Banks, the working day before (viz the Friday). You can't pay in cash on a Sunday but you could now try an immediate FP .. and hope they would accept that met the T&Cs.
The customer service rep who I spoke tp admitted it was a mistake and woud be reported and investigated.
The CS rep is wrong .. and will get her hand smacked if she reports it as a fault. As earlier posts ..... anyone with a Halifax Regular Saver and funding it via internal SO dated Monday will see, on Sunday, the debit showing on the current / Web account and the credit on the RS ..... both dated Monday. It's how their systems work. Any DDs and external SOs due on the Monday ... show in the early hours of Mon morning.
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !
  • I bank with the Halifax and have never noticed my money being earmarked for payment. I had a loan payment due yesterday and my balance was correct when I checked last night before going to bed
  • Thank Woozywendy, so it is wrong then! my payment is only due today, but was taken yesterday, with todays date on the transaction it just has to be wrong!
  • Seems like SOP to me. I've seen banks do this before. It's been frequently commented on here too IIRC.
