The solution is to ditch the tin trays and buy stoneware instead! They are so much more superior - they don't take half the cleaning and the older they are, the better they get!

I haven't found a way to rescue trays myself unfortunately! Now though I cut the reusable baking liner sheets to fit the trays and these save a lot of work. It would be a lot cheaper than replacing your trays and the OH might be incentivised to use them as the food cannot stick to it. They then just get washed up as normal and the tray can easily go in the dishwasher.
Personally I don't mind if the trays darken over time and use but I am a bit sluttish!

Where can I buy these reusable baking liners cheaply please, ive been looking for weeks.

I got a pack of two in Lidl a few months ago - but you just have to keep your eyes open in there. Maybe a kitchen gadget shop or similar :D.

Good Luck - they are good :D.

Morrisons sell them for about £2. In a black and red packet, usually hanging up in the baking isle. Called Teflon cooking mats.

Other places sell them under different names, "Magic Liners" etc. But whatever the name, they are brilliant.
  • You could try poundland. I bought some from there but it was about 2 years ago.

  • I use stardrops in very hot water and soak the dishes for about an hour - it seems to get all the gunge and burnt on stuff off much better than soapy water for some reason.

Soaking in biological washing powder and very hot water might help but changing OH is probably a better solution!!

P.S. Just thought I'd add seasonal advice on baking trays: I know it's not very MSE but last year I used those foil trays for cooking Christmas lunch (all except turkey) and then just binned them afterwards. Great time-saver.
  • Bit of cream cleaner works for me.

Doh. Why didn't I think of that. Excellent idea. I'd been contemplating attacking the underside of my frying pans with the steam cleaner. :D

I was going to use caustic soda to clean my Yorkshire pudding tray. Is that okay or will it dissolve the pan?

I always soak grotty baking trays by filling with a solution of cheap washing powder and hot water. Leave a few hours or overnight and they need little in the way of scrubbing, even really horrible greasy meat trays.
