Want some Ginger Wine Concentrate

Options
Another craving I've been having recently..

When I was little, my Mum used to bring Ginger wine concentrate/essence back from our Christmas holiday in Scotland. She doesn't think you can get it anymore after asking relatives up there. Bought from a chemist too. Any of our Scotch readers know different?

I seem to recall it coming in a small bottle, no bigger than say a normal medicine bottle. To make the wine all you had to do was add the concentrate to a big saucepan of water and add tons of sugar, simmer, done!.

Raspberry wine was aswesome too!

PS. Mum's just reminded me, it was non alcoholic

No idea, I'm afraid  I buy Stone's Ginger wine from wine shops. As this is a shopping rather than an OS question, I'll move you over to see if others can help ;)

I can’t help you directly but my roots are Welsh (not Welch). As far as I know natives of Scotland are Scots or Scottish but they are definitely not Scotch which is a drink.
I fear you may have offended a nation.

Sorry Jimmo. Scot/Scottish Pancakes just doesn't sound the same.

My parents, grandparents are all Scotch, I must have picked that slang word up from them :D

  • I agree that we are Scottish or Scots. Pies, eggs, sticky tape and the like are 'Scotch'.

However, I wasn't offended to read it!

  • Hi

Holland & Barratt sell a ginger wine. I don't think its concentrate but still pretty strong stuff that better diluted down alittle with lemonade/hot water/fizzy water etc
  • Hiya its called Yu-Lade and you can get it from the co op. Have not seen the ginger one recently but have just got 2 bottles of the blackcurrant one which is delicious. It is in a tiny wee bottle (100mls) with Yu-Lade Blackcurrant Flavouring Concentrate. I got mine from the Co Op in Tannochside Uddingston.

  • I think Friar Tucks Ginger Wine Essence is the stuff you talking about. But I'm sure it no longer available unfortunately.

  • There's a non-alcholic version of ginger wine called Dorset Ginger (I think it's made by a company with the same name) and that's a ginger cordial. It's the kind of thing you get from delis and independent food shops. I've used it in place of ginger wine when I couldn't find any and it's very strong, definitely something that you could dilute or mix with spirits.
